30 detained for black flag protest against Tamil Nadu governor

Thirty people were detained by the police in Chennai on Thursday for staging a black flag protest against the Tamil Nadu governor, RN Ravi. The protesters were members of the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), two pro-left political parties.

The protesters gathered at the Lali Road junction in Chennai and waved black flags in protest against Ravi’s presence in the city. They accused Ravi of interfering in the state’s affairs and demanded his resignation.

The police detained the protesters and took them to the Central Jail in Puzhal. They were later released on bail.

The protest comes amid a growing political tussle between the Tamil Nadu government and the governor. The government has accused Ravi of acting at the behest of the central government and interfering in the state’s administration. Ravi has denied the allegations.

The protest is also seen as a sign of the growing discontent among the people of Tamil Nadu against the governor. In recent months, there have been several protests against Ravi, including a hunger strike by DMK leader MK Stalin.

The Tamil Nadu government has said that it will continue to oppose Ravi’s interference in the state’s affairs. It has also said that it will take legal action against him if he continues to violate the Constitution.

The detention of the protesters has drawn criticism from the opposition parties. The DMK has called it a “witch-hunt” and said that the police are acting at the behest of the governor. The Congress party has also condemned the detention and said that it is an attack on democracy.

The issue is likely to further escalate the political tensions between the Tamil Nadu government and the governor. It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the coming days.
