Pedro Almodovar begins filming his new feature film: title, synopsis, casting and first images. Here is what awaits you!

It turns for Pedro Almodovar! A few months after the release of the next room, with Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton, a golden lion at the Venice Festival, the filmmaker begins the shots of his new film.

After shooting in English for his latest film to date, return to the Spaniard for Amarga Navidad. The casting will be made up of Bárbara Lennie, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Victoria Lungo, Patrick Criado, Milena Smit and Quim Gutiérrez.

The original script is signed Pedro Almodovar. The intrigue will follow Elsa, an advertising director, fleeing the mourning of her mother by throwing herself headlong into her work until a crisis of anxiety forces her to stop. In order to rebuild herself, she flies away to take a break with her friend Patricia, who also needs to move away from her house. Bonifacio, his companion, who has become a real pillar in these difficult times, remains in Madrid.

The stories of these three characters intertwine to that of the scriptwriter and director Raúl Durán, blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction in an inseparable and sometimes painful way.

A Instagram account dedicated to the film was launched, allowing you to see a few behind the scenes of the shooting. The film will be released in the cinema in 2026.

The shooting is currently taking place in Madrid in Spain, and in Lanzarote, in the Canaries archipelago. It is on this island that Pedro Almodovar had shot part of the film embraced broken, in 2009, as our colleagues from Cineuropa.

Amarga Navidad is the 24th feature film by Pedro Almodovar. Note that the title is a nod to a song by Chavela Vargas. It means bitter Christmas.
