Amazon Fire 7 (2022) review: How good can a $60 tablet be?

Amazon Fire 7 is a tablet device that was released by Amazon in September 2015. The device has a 7-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1024×600 and is powered by a quad-core 1.3 GHz processor. It comes with 1 GB of RAM and 8 or 16 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded via microSD card.

The Amazon Fire 7 runs Fire OS 5, based on Android Lollipop, and features Amazon’s own Amazon Appstore as well as access to the Google Play Store. The device also comes with Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant built-in. The Amazon Fire 7 is available in black, blue, or red color options.

“If you know what you’re getting, the 2022 Fire 7 can’t be beaten for the price. But don’t expect it to be an iPad.”

Pros

  • Excellent battery life
  • Runs simple tasks efficiently
  • Low cost
  • Portable
  • Optimized for streaming

Cons

  • Fire OS software
  • Long charge times
  • Poor display and cameras

The Amazon Fire 7 (2022) isn’t a tablet that’ll set the world on fire, but for the price, it’s surprisingly solid. It takes just about everything that its 2019 predecessor did and improves upon it, making it a no-brainer purchase for anyone looking for a budget tablet. If you have big plans on making the Fire 7 a work device, however, you’ll be sorely disappointed.

For a tablet under $100 though? The Fire 7 does a lot for what it’s working with, making it a device that’s worth picking up under the right circumstances.

Design

The 2022 model of the Amazon Fire 7 doesn’t change much from the 2019 design in terms of the overall look. Both feature 7-inch screens, but the 2022 model has increased the display size by reducing the amount of bezel to just a half-inch on all sides. The backs of both devices are finished with colored matte plastic.

The similarities end there, however, as the 2022 Fire 7 takes a new approach to its layout. For starters, the Amazon arrow logo and all information text on the back of the device have been flipped horizontally.
