There’s an old saying that beauty’s in the eye of the beholder. However, when it comes to cartoons, beauty’s in the eye of the drawer. Unlike famous movie stars, cartoon characters never age or change and always look the same. A good-looking cartoon character will be hot forever. Unfortunately, that means unattractive characters will never grow out of it. In other words, these are ugly cartoon characters.
To be fair, each ugly character is a legend and icon in their own right. Their unique and unusual appearance adds to the appeal. These cartoon characters don’t rely on their looks to make it through the world of animation. They’re often confident, funny, and charming. Regardless, they’re still ugly cartoon characters.
Beavis & Butt-Head – Beavis & Butthead
The critically acclaimed Beavis & Butt-Head changed animation forever. Indeed, the series features crude humor, controversial storylines, and two of the ugliest cartoon characters. For instance, Beavis has blonde hair, beady little eyes, and a massive overbite. He also has a permanent out-to-lunch stare. Plus, Beavis is a bit of a pushover.
His best friend, Butt-Head, has a distinctive style. He looks similar but has a nasal voice and ends each sentence with an annoying laugh. It’s tough to determine which of the two is the ugliest character.
Mr. Denzel Quincy Crocker – The Fairly Oddparents
Mr. Denzel Quincy Crocker is one of the main villains on the popular animated television show The Fairly OddParents. Clearly, he’s one ugly character. The creators purposely designed Mr. Crocker as grotesque and unattractive.
For instance, he’s a geek with horrible teeth, oddly shaped ears, and a hunch back. He’s a bad guy that’s obsessed with fairies. Mr. Crocker can be cruel, bitter, and insane. At the same time, he can be intelligent in certain situations. Regardless, he’s one of the ugliest cartoon characters.
Wile E. Coyote – Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies
Wile E. Coyote is a famous Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoon character. He often appears with his rival, the Road Runner, and on occasion with Bugs Bunny. Wile E. doesn’t have a lot going for him. He’s an ugly cartoon character, but he doesn’t seem to care about his physical appearance. He’s much more concerned with catching and eating the Road Runner.
Wile E. often comes up with wild elaborate plans to catch the Road Runner, which all backfire. He’s an unattractive coyote with giant ears and evil eyes. He’s easily at the top of any ugly cartoon character list.
John Herbert – Family Guy
John Herbert is one of the ugliest characters living in the city of Quahog. He’s an old man that lives near the Griffin family. He usually wears a blue robe and gets around town with his trusty walker. Herbert, voiced by Mike Henry, also has a high-pitched voice with a distinctive lisp.
However, Herbert’s an ugly character primarily because of his personality. Indeed, he has an inappropriate attraction to young teenage boys, notably Chris Griffin. His unacceptable behavior automatically makes him an ugly cartoon character.
Mother Gothel – Tangled
Mother Gothel is the primary villain in the 2010 animated movie Tangled. She’s an evil witch who uses the magical golden flower to remain young and beautiful. However, she’s actually an elderly woman that’s close to death. She’s losing her hair, has marks all over her body, and appears unhealthy. Of course, she’s also vain and superficial. She places a lot of importance on looks despite being an ugly cartoon character.
Toot Braunstein – Drawn Together
The popular animated television show Drawn Together follows the cast of a reality series featuring former cartoon stars. The fictional characters are parodies of real cartoon characters. For instance, Toot Braunstein is a parody of the iconic Betty Boop. In the 1920s, Toot is considered a beautiful icon and sex symbol with the ideal body.
However, the Drawn Together cast views her as an ugly character based on today’s standards. The series depicts her as being obsolete, unattractive, and delusional. In the series, she claims to be 22 years old, but the animators often portray her as an elderly woman closer to 100 in age. Toot’s also suicidal and struggles with addiction.
Mr. Mackey – South Park
The critically acclaimed animated sitcom South Park features unique characters not seen anywhere else. Indeed, fans consider several residents of the town to be ugly characters. However, Mr. Mackey is at the top of every list.
He’s a teacher at South Park Elementary and is easily recognizable by his giant head, thick eyeglasses, and receding hairline. He’s also known for his famous catchphrase “m’kay.” Mr. Mackey sometimes appears to be highly intelligent, but not always. It’s safe to say that Mr. Mackey is one ugly cartoon character, m’kay.
Meg Griffin – Family Guy
Meg Griffin is a member of the Griffin family in the beloved animated series Family Guy. At first glance, Meg appears to be a typical cartoon character. She’s plain looking with short brown hair and is always wearing her beanie. Unlike most female characters, Meg doesn’t have a curvy body or exaggerated features. She comes across as pretty ordinary and plain.
However, her family would strongly disagree. They consider her the ugliest character they have ever met. Actually, the entire town views her as hideous and disgusting. They often mock her physical appearance, voice, and weight. Of course, she’s far from the ugliest character in the series.
Mr. Magoo – Mister Magoo
The immensely popular character Mr. Magoo starred in the animated series Mister Magoo and several spinoffs. Despite his popularity, Mr. Magoo’s clearly not a heartthrob. He has a large head and often wears a top hat and a green jacket. He also has terrible eyesight and can barely see on a good day.
Indeed, he usually gets into trouble because of his impaired vision. To make matters worse, Mr. Magoo completely denies his horrible eyesight. The combination makes him an ugly cartoon character.
Squidward Tentacles – SpongeBob SquarePants
The massively popular SpongeBob SquarePants follows the lives of SpongeBob and his friends living in the underwater city, Bikini Bottom. SpongeBob has a lot of unusual-looking friends. Honestly, his neighbor Squidward Tentacles is one ugly character.
Despite his name, he’s actually an octopus with six tentacles, an oversized floppy nose, and a skinny body. To top it off, he has a nasal voice to match his physical appearance. He’s also stubborn, egotistical, bleak, and pretentious.
Sideshow Bob – The Simpsons
Matt Groening’s The Simpsons is a classic show featuring groundbreaking animation and memorable characters. Undoubtedly, Sideshow Bob is one of the show’s most iconic villains. He’s also one of the ugliest characters in Springfield, which is quite an accomplishment.
He often claims to be a genius but is clearly a sadistic psychopath. His mission in life is to kill Bart Simpson, which he fails at doing time and time again. He has a skinny body with giant feet and a wild hairstyle. He absolutely ticks the boxes of an ugly cartoon character.
Gargamel – The Smurfs
Gargamel is the main villain in the popular franchise The Smurfs. His whole existence revolves around capturing and eliminating the Smurfs. Like most cartoon villains in animation, Gargamel fails to destroy the Smurfs.
He’s a typical villain with his receding hairline, long pointy nose, and terrible fashion sense. However, his cruel, selfish, and heartless nature makes him one of the ugliest characters in animation.
Ren Hoek & Stimpson “Stimpy” J. Cat – Ren & Stimpy
John Kricfalusi’s critically acclaimed Rain & Stimpy gained quite the cult following over the years. Obviously, John Kricfalusi didn’t intend for Ren and Stimpy to be supermodels. They’re two of the ugliest cartoon characters in history, which is part of their appeal.
For instance, Ren is an abusive psychotic chihuahua with pink eyes, a scrawny body, a rat-like tail, and large donkey ears. On the other hand, Stimpy is a sweet, optimistic, dim-witted cat. He’s overweight with flat feet, big eyes, and no tail.
Dr. Two-Brains – WordGirl
Dr. Two-Brains is the evil villain in the animated series WordGirl. Dr. Two-Brains was once a handsome professor until an experiment went wrong and his mind combined with an evil lab rat, Squeaky. Now he’s a mad scientist whose life revolves around cheese.
He shares many traits with mice, including whiskers, pale skin, and white hair. In most cases, a scientist with two brains would be the hottest person in the world. Unfortunately, one of those brains belongs to a mouse.
