Red Carpet Dresses Got Paparazzis Gazing On 2022
Red carpet dresses are always a hot topic, with people eager to see what celebrities will be wearing to the latest awards show. While some opt for more traditional gowns, others use the red carpet as an opportunity to make a fashion statement. This year, there were a number of stand-out looks that had paparazzi and fashionistas alike gazing in awe.
Jennifer Lopez wore a plunging, sheer Versace dress that left little to the imagination. Kendall Jenner also turned heads in a sheer, embellished La Perla dress. And Florence Pugh rocked a ruffle-detailed Louis Vuitton mini dress that was equal parts girly and edgy. Whether you’re looking for something to wear to your next formal event or just want some fashion inspiration, these red carpet looks are sure to turn heads.

Kate Upton looked as gorgeous as always at the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty in 2016. Even though she didn’t go to the awards ceremony itself, she managed to captivate her fans and the media with the sleek black dress she wore to the afterparty. Her Victoria Beckham dress looked amazing despite having no details sewn or embroidered on it. The beauty of this dress lies solely in its design, which consists of a waistline and skirt that clings to the model’s body. Her dress is also sleeveless with a low neckline, and Upton wore light jewelry with it while carrying a small black clutch.
Penelope Cruz
Penelope Cruz, who plays a pirate called Angelica in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, attended this movie’s premiere at Cannes in 2011. She graced the red carpet alongside her co-star Johnny Depp, who plays her ex Captain Jack Sparrow. The dress she wore was an almost see-through Marchesa design that had a glittering detail embroidered on it. Her dress also had a tulle detail that looked like a cheerleader’s pom-pom on each of her shoulders. The same tulle netting was used as part of her dress’ skirt.
Jennifer Lopez
At the 2017 Billboard Latin Music Awards, Jennifer Lopez performed her then-new Spanish song called “Mirate” wearing this dress. She wowed both her fans and producer with this performance and also received an award on that day still wearing the same dress. This Julien Macdonald dress was mostly made up of a mesh-like fabric that had cuts and a slit that looked perfect on Lopez’s well-toned body. She wore gold Jimmy Choo heels with this dress and had her makeup done by Scott Barnes.
Emily Ratajkowski
After the 2017 Golden Globes ceremony, Emily Ratajkowski headed to the Beverly Hilton Hotel for the afterparty celebration. She attended the Warner Bros. and InStyle afterparty clad in a silky yellow dress. Her Reem Acra gown featured a beaded detail on her back that went to her halter and then ran down the middle of the front part of her dress. Even though her dress looked pretty, it also embarrassed her in front of the cameras. This dress had a slit in the middle that she had planned to use to show off her legs, but in doing so, she ended up revealing a whole lot more.
Nicole Kidman
The award-winning actress who’s popular for her portrayal of a courtesan in the movie Moulin Rouge! graced the red carpet in an extraordinary blue dress. Her Armani dress had a leg slit in the middle, which she used very generously to show off her legs when posing. The only thing that we’re not so sure about is that gigantic bow in the middle. However, this isn’t her first time on the red carpet and she’s developed a reputation because of her love of dresses with bold colors and designs.
Eiza González
Actress and singer Eiza González made her debut at the Oscars in 2018. The Mexican telenovela star, who had a minor role alongside Jamie Foxx in the movie Baby Driver, was given the opportunity to be a presenter at the Oscars. When she entered the red carpet, she had heads turning because of her bright yellow Ralph Lauren dress. Although her yellow floor-length dress looked modest, its tight-fitting design accentuated her well-toned body without showing too much skin. With this dress, she wore a good-sized bracelet and a pair of earrings that matched well with her dress.
Irina Shayk
The Russian model, who’s also one of soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo’s ex-lovers, shocked everyone at the Vanity Fair Oscar afterparty. She arrived half-naked, and we say that because of a very major detail in the design of her dress: It was made up of black fabric on one side that covered only the bare essentials, while the other side was made of a stocking-like mesh. With this Atelier Versace dress, she wore unassuming black heels and no jewelry at all.
Jennifer Lawrence
The former Oscar winner went for gold with her dress at this year’s Oscars. After having to fill in for Casey Affleck, who was supposed to be a presenter at this year’s Oscars celebration, Jennifer Lawrence arrived at the event wearing a glittering gold Dior dress. Her sequined dress looked a lot like chainmail, which made her look like a more elegant version of a knight. This fashion statement could be linked to her support of women’s rights. What adds more merit to this claim is the fact that this dress was designed by the only female designer at Dior.
Chrissy Teigen
Chrissy Teigen, a model and musician John Legend’s wife, wore a very controversial dress to the 2016 AMAs. This dress had two leg slits that went up to just above her hips. Although her dress was held by a pin, she had to hold it herself so that it wouldn’t flutter and reveal a bit too much. Despite her and her husband’s best efforts, she couldn’t stop the dress from doing the unthinkable. Teigen ended up having to apologize on social media for what her dress had done to her, and that sparked a heated debate online.
Sofia Vergara
At the 2014 Golden Globes celebration, Sofia Vergara was nominated for an award. When she was at the event, she wore a black dress but later changed into another one for the afterparty. According to a tweet she posted, the dress she wore at the afterparty was inspired by Jennifer Lopez. Her Zuhair Murad dress had silver beads lying on a bed of black fabric with a neckline that stopped just under her breasts. Vergara was wearing heels designed by Brian Atwood when she arrived at the Beverly Hilton Hotel for the afterparty celebration with her son and then-fiance Nick Loeb.
Jenna Dewan-Tatum
Jenna Dewan-Tatum, who’s famous for her performance in the movie Step Up, wore this dress at an afterparty she’d planned. She was supposed to go to the 2018 Oscars with her husband Channing Tatum, who preferred to spend his night babysitting their daughter. With her Oscars plan now called off, she teamed up with her friend Emmanuelle Chriqui, who planned the afterparty with her. Dewan-Tatum dazzled everyone present at the party with a red Pamella Roland dress that had a very high leg slit. She paired this dress with golden Casadei heels and jewelry designed by Lorraine Schwartz.
Kendall Jenner
Kendall Jenner is famous for liking to show off her body — whether she’s on or off the runway. At the 2017 Met Gala, though, she took things a whole lot further and wore something that resembled a dress. This “dress” of hers was more of a veil than anything else. It even showed her underwear. It also had a long leg slit, and when viewed from the front, it looked very similar to something you’d find in the ladies swimwear section at your local clothing store. With this “dress,” she wore black heels and minimalistic jewelry, but even this couldn’t cover up her fashion blunder.
Margot Robbie
Margot Robbie, who’s well known for her portrayal of Harley Quinn in the movie Suicide Squad, was nominated for an Oscar in 2018. The actress was a nominee at the Awards for her role as Tonya Harding in the film I, Tonya. Although this was her first nomination, her marvellous fashion choices made it look like this wasn’t her first rodeo. Margot Robbie wore a white Chanel dress that put a modern twist on red carpet dresses that were worn in the 1990s. She also wore diamond-studded jewelry from Chanel with high heels from Roger Vivier.
Stella Maxwell
The Belgian-born Victoria’s Secret Angel looked more like a ravishing demon in her sleek black dress at an Oscars afterparty. She wore this dress to a Vanity Fair party that was hosted by Radhika Jones in Beverly Hills, California. This dress is very similar to the one she wore at another Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty in 2017. Her 2018 dress has a few minor design differences compared to the 2017 dress. The major differences are that her 2017 dress was silvery in color and didn’t have a leg slit. Her 2018 dress also had a very low neckline that nearly reached her stomach.
Samara Weaving
Samara Weaving, who’s known for her supporting role in the movie Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, looked outrageously stunning at the 2018 Oscars. She arrived at the event in a coral-colored dress that touched the floor. Her Schiaparelli dress was held together by two bands at the waist and also featured a low neckline. She paired this dress with a simple ring, a Valextra purse and a pair of earrings. Weaving’s dress made her look like a goddess you’d find in Greek mythology. Her excellent taste in fashion even made us forget that this was her first time at the Oscars.
Emily Ratajkowski
On her second day at Cannes in 2017, Emily Ratajkowski went with the event’s extravagant theme and wore a jumpsuit with a twist. Her jumpsuit looked more like a dress with its tiered skirt and lacy accents. To avoid having to carry the weight of her dress on her shoulders, she asked her designer to do something different. Her designer, a former Roberto Cavalli executive, made her this jumpsuit that had the weight of the jumpsuit’s skirt balanced on her waist. Ratajkowski wore modest accessories and black heels that looked wonderful with this creation.
Rachel McAdams
Rachel McAdams arrived at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival with her then-boyfriend and co-star Michael Sheen. She came to this festival to attend the premiere of a movie she was in called Midnight in Paris. McAdams wore a red Marchesa dress that had intricate embroidery and a beautiful lacy touch to its design. She paired this dress with gold Casadei shoes and jewelry by Bulgari before heading to the runway with Sheen. According to a social media post made by a fashionista, she’s one of the best-dressed celebrities to ever walk the Cannes red carpet.
Bella Hadid
In 2016, Bella Hadid attended her first Cannes Film Festival, gracing the red carpet in this nude-colored dress. Glad to be rid of her mother and sister’s shadows, she posed confidently at the premiere of Café Society. Although some critics have suggested that her fashion career is successful because of her last name, she proved them wrong with this dress. This dress is a Roberto Cavalli Couture design that’s adorned with only a few details, and it looked dazzling when paired with the diamond de Grisogono necklace she had on. She also wore a de Grisogono bracelet that looked good with the dress, necklace and Stuart Weitzman heels.
Diane Kruger
Diane Kruger was extremely involved at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. We saw her go to a number of parties, photo shoots and premieres. While doing all that, she changed her dresses often, but the dress that stole most of our hearts is the blue dress she wore to the Sea of Trees premiere. This floor-length light blue Prada dress had strong details embroidered on its front and didn’t show much skin. The only skin you would get to see is her arms and back, but even that had a sash flowing down from her dress’ halter.
Rita Ora
Rita Ora rose to stardom because of a song she recorded with Iggy Azalea called “Black Widow.” This song is also what got her to the 2014 VMAs, where she got both the chance to perform on stage and the opportunity to walk the red carpet. She looked stunning on the red carpet in her silky red dress that had a hip-high leg slit. Ora also wore bright-red lipstick that matched well with her dress. Her look, in general, was a modernized version of 1950s fashion and her slicked-back hairdo made her look like a modern-day Marilyn Monroe.
Salma Hayek
The Gucci brand exhibited its second premiere at the opening ceremony of the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. This is where Salma Hayek got the opportunity to walk down the red carpet representing the brand at the Midnight in Paris premiere. Her champagne-colored dress featured an elaborate embroidered design that had beads, crystals and sequins artfully strewn on the strapless top part of her dress. With this dress, Salma Hayek adorned herself with jewelry from Boucheron and carried a small clutch that was also designed by Gucci.
Eva Longoria
Eva Longoria, who’s spent more than a decade walking the Cannes red carpets, wore a toned-down but extremely striking dress at the 2014 festival. The dress she wore to the Saint Laurent premiere was a Gabriela Cadena design. Even though she had her doubts when she saw the design on paper, they all ceased after she saw it in person. The dress was white-colored, silky and had a light embroidered detail. The detail on Longoria’s figure-hugging dress also consisted of a tasteful amount of Swarovski crystals and pearls of different sizes. She decided to wear only a bracelet and a pair of earrings with this dress.
Ashley Graham
Ashley Graham, who’s continuously opening doors for larger-sized models by modeling for big brands like Vogue, wore a stunning dress to an event in 2016. She walked the red carpet at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in a black Tadashi Shoji dress that had a lacy top and a thigh-high leg slit. According to the Tadashi Shoji website, Graham’s dress was a revamped version of their Riley Gown. The only difference between Graham’s dress and the Riley Gown is that her dress was sleeveless, its leg slit was more to her right side and it had a lower neckline.
Naomi Campbell
A model since she was 15 years old, Naomi Campbell has had the opportunity to work with top designers and get her face on magazine covers. Unlike some of her other ventures, her modeling career has been as bright and beautiful as her 2010 Cannes dress was. She wore this Roberto Cavalli dress that was made specifically for her at the premiere of the movie Biutiful. The dress was studded with gold and brown sequins that blended well with her skin tone. Campbell’s dress clung beautifully to her body, and she matched it with a pair of earrings and a bracelet while holding a clutch purse.
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga and fellow artist Tony Bennett released an album that debuted atop the 2014 Billboard 200 list. That album earned them an award and a time slot at the 2015 Grammy Awards, where they performed their hit single, “Cheek to Cheek.” As expected, Lady Gaga stunned her fans on the red carpet with an awesome silvery Brandon Maxwell dress that matched her hair. The dress had a neckline that dropped down to just under her sternum and a long leg slit. To add more bling and color to her attire, Lady Gaga wore jewelry from Lorraine Schwartz and silver-colored heels.
Kerry Washington
Kerry Washington, who starred in Django Unchained alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Foxx, wore this tulle dress to the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. Her Zuhair Murad dress was made of off-white tulle fabric, and it had a navy blue floral detail embroidered on it. This dress was a snug fit with no straps. It also had a Disney princess-like train attached to it that was made with the same fabric as the rest of her dress. Washington’s dress also featured a detail that looked like a navy band that went around her knees, where the train started flowing.
Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj, who rose to fame after her first studio album, was buckled up in this black dress at 2016 Met Gala. Minaj is known for not being shy about flaunting her body, and this figure-hugging dress looked great on her curves. It was a custom-made design by Jeremy Scott that featured buckle details on its front, sides and upper sleeves among other places. Minaj’s dress also had two sashes overlapping each other on her breasts that were fastened by buckles to its halter. She then perfected this look by adding a white tint to her black hair. This paired well with the colors of her dress.
Kendall Jenner
Kendall Jenner’s bold taste in fashion has us featuring her for the second time on this list of outrageous dresses. This time, though, her dress is a success. She wore this dress to the 120 Beats Per Minute premiere at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. Jenner’s white Giambattista Valli mini-dress had a metallic detail achieved by setting parallel patterns in a diagonal manner. This dress also had a free-flowing train that looked wonderful when blown by the French wind. Jenner wore a large Chopard ring, heels and sheer ankle socks with this dress.
Madonna
Her Aretha Franklin scandal aside, Madonna has always managed to get weirdness, controversy and sometimes outright provocation mixed up in her life and art. The dress she wore to the 2015 Grammy Awards sums up all three of those points. Madonna wore a black Givenchy bodysuit that was modeled after the attire worn by Spanish and Portuguese bullfighters. She wore this dress with black stockings and black leather boots that went up to her thighs. Her entire look resembled something you’d find at a lingerie store, and to add fuel to the fire, Madonna purposefully flashed her behind to the cameras.
Charlize Theron
At the 2015 Cannes premiere of the movie Mad Max: Fury Road, Charlize Theron brightened up the red carpet in her yellow dress. Her strapless Dior dress was a simple yet elegant design that clung to her waist and had a long train. Theron wasn’t entirely satisfied with it when she first saw it at the festival, and she had master seamstresses flown in to make it ready for the red carpet. Her dress wasn’t the only Dior product she had on — her makeup also came courtesy of Dior, and it was applied to her by makeup artist Pati Dubroff.
Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian was seen gracing the red carpet alongside her husband Kanye West at the 2014 MTV VMAs. Kardashian wore a dress that was designed by one of her favorite fashion brands, Balmain. This dress had a Medieval Times vibe to it because of its cape-like top. Her Balmain dress had black, red and white detail that was patterned in such a way to resemble a Greek or Roman soldier’s armor. Her ancient warrior look was accentuated by her dress’ short skirt and her strapped black Balmain heels. After adding a little makeup and wearing Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, Kardashian looked like a perfect goddess of war from ancient tales.
Amber Rose
Kanye West’s ex-girlfriend Amber Rose showed up at the MTV Movie and TV Awards in a red two-piece dress. While wearing this dress, she got to socialize with the entertainment industry’s biggest stars, like model and actress Cara Delevingne. Since it was raining at the time of the event, Rose hired a team of professionals who made sure that her dress would look great in front of the cameras. We know that they did a great job because she looked comfortable throughout the event and even blew kisses at the photographers.
Gigi Hadid
Gigi Hadid, a model and social media sensation, has worked with top fashion brands and designers like Tom Ford since her school days. At the 2015 amfAR gala, she wore a white dress that was designed by the aforementioned brand. Hadid’s white dress had a rectangular cutout at the front that stretched from under her halter down to her midsection. Her dress was a slim fit that didn’t have the usual red carpet flaring train, and it also had a leg slit that went up to her left thigh. She wore this dress with jewelry from Vita Fede and a pair of heels from Aquazzura.
Emma Stone
Emma Stone, who portrayed the character Jill in the Woody Allen movie Irrational Man, attended its premiere at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. The dress she wore at the premiere was a light blue Christian Dior design that had the classic straight-cut neckline that the brand’s founder became famous for. This dress had an open back and a cute train that wasn’t too long or too short. Stone’s dress didn’t have any details added to its design except for a lacy outer layer. The actress then completed her elegant look with a short hairstyle, minimal makeup and a shiny choker.
Miranda Kerr
Miranda Kerr was very excited about going to an Oscars afterparty in 2016. She even prepared herself in advance and had a facial using a Kora Organics face mask. She arrived at the Vanity Fair event wearing a red KaufmanFranco dress that had a swimsuit-styled top adjoined to its skirt. Her dress also had a slightly flared floor-length skirt and a slit running down the middle of its front part. With this dress, she wore a pair of earrings and red lipstick that matched her dress while carrying an oval-shaped gold clutch-purse.
Ciara
Chart-topping singer Ciara arrived at the 2016 Grammy Awards with her now-husband Russell Wilson. At the event, she wore this black dress that was designed by Alexandre Vauthier. The dress hung from her neck on thin straps, and it had a low V-styled neckline. Ciara’s dress was mostly studded with silver sequins at its front, but the most eye-catching feature of this dress was the slit it had that exposed her entire left leg. She then gave her attire a fine finish by wearing Norman Silverman Diamonds jewelry.
Blake Lively
In 2014, Blake Lively walked the red carpet in support of her husband’s Captives premiere at Cannes. The black and white dress she wore was designed by Gucci. Her strapless silk dress’ large train and bold black-on-white pattern made it look like it was a vintage piece from the ‘50s. The light jewelry she wore with this dress included a diamond bracelet that also had a pearl and ruby. She also wore diamond earrings and two necklaces that had the same gem. The diamond jewelry she wore totaled about 200 carats, and it all came from Lorraine Schwartz.
Gabrielle Union
When she went to the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty, Gabrielle Union wore this confusing Jean Paul Gaultier dress. It left most of her left side naked, only covering the essentials. Her right side was fully clothed in what could’ve been the other half of a retro black dress. The back side of her dress also covered her entire rear except for her left shoulder and a small area on her lower back. She wore this 2-in-1 dress with a few rings, a bracelet and a pair of earrings. However, when pictures of her dress surfaced on social media, they received mixed reviews.
Jessica Chastain
Jessica Chastain, who played Mrs. O’Brien’s role in the movie The Tree of Life, attended its premiere at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. This was her first time at the event, and she was shaking from nervousness. Her co-stars Brad Pitt and Sean Penn helped her by holding her hands while going up the infamous Palais steps. When she reached the top, the media instantly took photos of her in this yellow dress that was designed by Zac Posen. Her dress didn’t have any straps, and it had a lacy texture that stretched from her stomach to the bottom of her dress’ train.
Nicole Kidman
At the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, Nicole Kidman came to the red carpet wearing this dress to the premiere of her movie, Grace of Monaco. She chose to wear this Armani Privé dress on the first day of the ceremony. The blue dress had a lacy outer layer of the same color, and it had dark beads sewn on it that were arranged into a powerful yet feminine-looking detail. Kidman then wore jewelry by Harry Winston and Jimmy Choo shoes.
Aishwarya Rai
Aishwarya Rai, who came to the red carpet for the movie premiere of Okja, represented the Bollywood movie industry excellently at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. She wore a soft blue Michael Cinco dress that had a modest but chic neckline. The biggest attraction was its large skirt that made her outfit look similar to the ones worn by Disney princesses. The color of her dress gave it a cool, winter-like aura that was accentuated by the frosty botanic detail embroidered on it. Rai perfected her look by wearing several inconspicuous silver rings that let her dress have all the shine.
Angelina Jolie
World-renowned actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie accompanied her then-partner Brad Pitt to his Inglourious Basterds premiere at Cannes in 2009. The award-winning actress wore a nude-colored Versace dress that had a thigh-high slit and a sleeve that caressed her right upper arm in a shawl-like manner. Jolie then paired this dress with champagne-colored heels, and she was showered with public displays of affection by Pitt. She reciprocated positively at a time when there were breakup rumors about them.
Lupita Nyong’o
Lupita Nyong’o, who’s famous for her portrayal of Patsey in the movie 12 Years a Slave, wore a dashing green dress to the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. Her Gucci dress had a low-hanging neckline and a detail that consisted of silk flowers that were sewn on its shoulders. Nyong’o seemed to enjoy her break from acting as she smiled and twirled her dress’ long skirt for the Cannes paparazzi. She wore heels of the same color and brand as her dress. To add more bling to her attire, she wore Chopard jewelry.
Freida Pinto
Award-winning actress Freida Pinto flew into the Cannes red carpet in 2017. We say that she flew into the event because of her Michael Kors dress that had a feathered detail attached to its wide floor-length skirt. Her dress’ skirt also had sequins that breathed more life into the already playful-looking garment. The actress’ custom-made dress had a top that had a V-shaped neckline, and it clung to her waist. Pinto wore this dress to the Saint Laurent premiere. She ended up being one of the best dressed at the premiere.
Fan Bingbing
The 2015 Cannes Film Festival welcomed talented Chinese actress Fan Bingbing, who was attending the Mad Max: Fury Road premiere. Her tulle Marchesa dress made her look like an anime character that some people found beautiful while others disagreed. The dress had a floral detail attached to its top that was made of fabric and a layer of light lace. The floral detail that started from the dress’ top was styled in a way that made it look like it was dripping. Bingbing wore light jewelry from Chopard and a crown of flowers that matched her dress.
Mindy Kaling
Multi-talented comedian and actress Mindy Kaling has made appearances in the blockbuster movies A Wrinkle in Time, Wreck-It Ralph and Despicable Me. Her love of the film industry also led her to the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, where she wore this brightly colored dress. Her Salvador Perez dress was made up of a pink top and a purple skirt that had a leg slit that went up against her left thigh. Kaling managed to stay stylish while not spoiling the theme at the premiere of the animated film Inside Out, in which she has a voice role.
Naomi Watts
English-born Naomi Watts first got her fame from the 1986 movie For Love Alone that was released in Australia. Although her acting career had a bumpy start, she’s now a red carpet regular, and this is why she was present at the premiere of Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted at the 2012 Cannes festival. She wore this Marchesa dress that was in a shade of peach and had a feathery detail embroidered all over it. Watts wore this dress with a pair of earrings, a silver clutch-purse and a diamond necklace that clung close to her neck.
Rachel Weisz
Rachel Weisz played Lena Ballinger in the 2015 Italian comedy movie Youth. She also attended its premiere that was showcased at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. Weisz slipped into a silky-smooth, dark blue Prada dress that had a tiny slit at the front part of its top. This dress had sleeves that didn’t reach her wrists and a lovely criss-cross pattern that met above Weisz’s rear. The actress’ dress was a custom-made piece that had a long train, and she paired it with jewelry from Chaumet. With this dress still on, she posed many times for the cameras while holding a black clutch.
Lea Seydoux
Also known as Loulou de la Falaise in the movie Saint Laurent, Lea Seydoux rocked this green dress while attending the movie’s premiere at Cannes in 2014. The French actress’ dress was made of fine satin and jewels. Some of these jewels were sewn onto her dress’ shoulders while the rest were attached to the train. Seydoux’s train had diamonds fixed into its emerald jewels, and she flashed even more diamonds with a pair of earrings and a dark-colored ring. The actress’ dress also had a low-cut, V-styled neckline and short sleeves.
Paz Vega
Spanish actress Paz Vega walked the red carpet of the opening ceremony at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival wearing this dress. She wore the white Roberto Cavalli dress to the premiere of The Great Gatsby on the first day of the film festival. Her dress made it look like she was wearing mesh fabric over a corset, but the dress actually came in one piece. The embroidered see-through lace that comprised Vega’s skirt showed off her legs and designer heels well.
Elizabeth Banks
Elizabeth Banks, who has been filmed in the superhero productions Spider-Man and Power Rangers, attended the 2010 premiere of a South Korean movie called Poetry. The pink mini-dress she wore at the event wouldn’t have been a bad superhero outfit, and it surely could’ve inspired any poet to write a few stanzas. The Georges Chakra dress had an aurora-like vibe to it because of its pattern and colors. Another striking feature is its tail-like train and the scrunched-up detail on her right shoulder. She carried a gold Ferragamo clutch-purse and wore jewelry from Chopard with this outfit.
Uma Thurman
Uma Thurman, who played Mia Wallace in the 1994 movie Pulp Fiction, attended its 20th-anniversary celebration at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. She wore a bold, bright yellow dress to the movie’s tribute. The Atelier Versace dress had long, free-flowing fabric details on her shoulders that added a dramatic effect to the garment when blown by the Cannes wind. Her dress also had a modest neckline that was above her breasts and a slit that went down its middle. Thurman wore light, unobtrusive Chopard jewelry to accessorize this outfit.
Gal Gadot
At the 2018 Oscars, Gal Gadot’s movie Wonder Woman was nominated for an award. However, she didn’t attend the event only for that because she was also one of the presenters. Gadot wore a sparkling ‘20s-inspired dress that had barely visible shoulder straps and a low neckline. The dress was a Givenchy design, and it was completely covered with steel-colored sequins that gradually got darker as you neared the dress’ hem. Gadot wore a statement necklace with this dress that had over 900 cut diamonds.
Zhang Ziyi
Zhang Ziyi is well known for starring as Yu Zhen in the 2014 romantic war movie The Crossing that was filmed in Chinese. She arrived at the Grace of Monaco premiere at Cannes in 2014 wearing this black and white Stephane Rolland dress. The actress’ dress had a good amount lace layers on its white skirt that had a long train. The dress’ black top had white geometric patterns printed on it, and it also replaced the top’s black fabric in some parts of its sleeve. Ziyi then completed her look with Chopard jewelry, a black and white clutch and Brian Atwood shoes.
Cara Delevingne
On May 15, 2013, The Great Gatsby’s cast and other celebrities came to the movie premiere’s red carpet despite the rain. One of the celebrities present at the event was model and actress Cara Delevingne. She went along with the evening’s vintage theme by wearing a black lacy Burberry dress. Her dress had a low neckline that ran at the edges of the dress’ lacy top. Delevingne’s dress also had a unique skirt that fanned out a little from her knees to its hem. She wore this dress with a diamond collar necklace, earrings and a bulbous ring on her right hand.
Cheryl Cole
Cheryl Cole came to the 2012 Cannes red carpet as a brand ambassador for L’Oreal Paris. The British pop artist and Hollywood actress stepped onto the festival’s red carpet at the premiere of the French movie Amour wearing a white and red dress. This Stephane Rolland dress had a white top that had a very modest but stylish neckline and small slits on its shoulder-length sleeves. Her dress also had a red train that made her look a bit like a bird because of its heavily feathered detail. She matched this dress with a red clutch-purse and diamond earrings.
Michelle Williams
Michelle Williams joined her co-stars at the 2010 Cannes premiere of the movie Blue Valentine, in which she played the character Cindy. She took to the red carpet in this pink satin dress from Chanel that hung from her chest. What should’ve been the dress’ straps were left dangling on the actress’ arms. These straps had a rope-like design, and they met in the middle of her dress’ neckline separated by a floral detail. This mermaid-style dress also looked like a modernized version of dresses that were worn by Ancient Greek ladies.
Camilla Belle
Camilla Belle looked very calm and confident in her first appearance at the Cannes Film Festival in 2010. She arrived at the red carpet for the Il Gattopardo premiere wearing this deep blue Gucci dress. The dress had a modestly flared train and a leg slit that went up just above her left knee. This dress hung from a satin sash that went over her left shoulder, and this sash had an embroidered detail on it. Belle wore this dress with a pair of earrings and a light blue bracelet on her left wrist.
Audrey Tautou
Audrey Tautou, who’s famous for her portrayal of Coco Chanel in the movie Coco Before Chanel, graced the Cannes red carpets in both the opening and closing ceremonies. She got to wear this red and pink Prada dress at the closing ceremony of the 2013 festival that ended with the premiere of Zulu. This red apron-like dress had two pink straps that criss-crossed each other at her back and front and ended up getting fastened at the back of her waist. Tautou then completed her look by wearing a small ring and drop earrings.
