Acer Chromebook 715 review: A great, big Chromebook

The Acer Chromebook 715 began life as a premium model targeted at the growing business market for Chrome OS devices. With his younger siblings, The Chromebook 714, The 715 features a premium all-aluminum chassis, designed to survive down force of up to 48 inches (122 cm) and up to 132 pounds (60 kg). You can also Get the Chromebook 715 Along with a fingerprint reader, a backlit keyboard, an Intel Core i5 processor and 16GB of memory for about $ 750. Or, you can get a much more affordable version that dials back to the specs and extras but has a premium build quality, making it a great choice for a home office or student Chromebook.

like

  • Premium lightweight design with huge 15.6 inch display
  • Battery life longer than a workday
  • Daily good performance

do not like it

  • No backlit keyboard, fingerprint reader like high-end versions
  • Soldering on memory, storage

Acer dropped the price to $ 330 with a low-end processor and less memory, along with dropping things like the backlight on the keyboard and fingerprint reader. With the increasing demand for distance learning and inexpensive Chromebooks for work, the price is now higher $ 419 with a touchscreen or $ 399 without. Both of them are still considered all things of really good value and an easy recommendation if you don’t need anything. (The Acer Chromebook 715 is not currently available in the UK or Australia, but my configuration costs £ 260 and AU $ 470.)

The 715 is larger due to its performance, but it is still thinner and lighter.

A mobile home office or classroom

My children are currently in distance education for seventh, fifth and third grade. They change where in our house they take their classes almost every day. They meet Google most of the day working intermittently and then stay on their Chromebook to complete the school’s “homework”. They are also not the best at charging their devices. The Chromebook 715 is what I would buy them for.

The 15.6-inch display gives them room to see what they are working on without having to scroll continuously. And touchscreens are a plus because they never know the time without them and are used to poking at the screen. The display is reasonably bright, but reflections are less of an issue with its matte finish.

The 715 uses my children’s 11.6-inch Chromebook, but because the Acer is relatively light and thin for its size, it’s still manageable to carry around the house. Also, since it is built for durability, I am less concerned about dropping it.

The hinge lets you lay the display flat on a desk.

Core i3 processors and 4 GB memory is more than enough to handle their schoolwork and then some. This is good because memory and storage cannot be upgraded. The 715 also has amazing battery life. On our streaming video test, it ran for 16 hours, 18 minutes. With more specific use, they will be able to get through the school day without the need to plug it. It charges through its USB-C port and with one on each side, it’s less of an issue with how close they are to the outlet.

The Chromebook 715 features a 720p 720p web service; You will need a lot of light to get a picture that is soft and not noisy. The quality of the mic is also fine, so you should have no trouble seeing and listening on your next Google Meet. Virtually no Chromebook, Windows laptop, or MacBook has good full-HD-or-better webcams, which is now a shame that everyone is using them nonstop.

The keyboard is wide.

The keyboard is comfortable and the keys are well anchored. And, for those who need one, there is a full number pad. However, it is disappointing that the price was one of the things removed to reduce it. The Acer left in a touchpad covered with gorilla glass, however, it is sleek and responsive.

At its original $ 330 price, the Acer Chromebook 715 was a steal. But even at its slightly higher price of $ 399, it’s a good deal. If you need or want a smaller, lighter Chromebook to slip into your backpack, Lenovo chromebook flex 5 or Others like it Would be a better fit. For those who just need a good, durable Chromebook around the house, however, you probably want to scoop up the Chromebook 715.
