A few days after having landed on Prime Video, “Shadow Force” is already at the top of the Top 10. A tour de force for the actors and for its director, who experienced a crossing of the desert recently … After the rain, the good weather?
On June 27, Prime Video added to its Shadow Force catalog, a action film worn by the Frenchy Omar Sy and the American Kerry Washington. If the US shunned, the French subscribers were more lenient with the last achievement of Joe Carnahan who follows two elite agents who want to bring down their old boss.
Shadow Force is currently the most seen film on Prime Video, in front of the romantic comedy everything except you and Mr Wolff 2. Proof if it is that spectators love the blockbusters that overflow with action and explosion. If Shadow Force did not allow studios to make their money profitable, he will especially allowed Joe Carnahan to be at the heart of the news.
The king of films B
This American director experienced a fairly splendor in the 2010s, with the crazy the agency, all risks and the mastered territory of wolves with Liam Neeson. At that time, Carnahan received lots of attractive projects, including the one in 2012 of a Daredevil film which will not see the light of day.
Unfortunately, the director acquires a certain reputation in Hollywood. Far from the figure of the “Yes Man”, he does not hesitate to put himself in concerning to the studios because not in accordance with their creative visions. Carnahan will slam the door to many films for this reason, like Bad Boys 3 (on which he will ultimately be a scriptwriter) or the American remake of The Raid.
The director then experienced a small crossing of the desert punctuated by B films as the forgettable descent to the post with Gerard Butler and Boss Level with Mel Gibson. He also tried on the small screen by working on Blacklist and State of Affairs.
Rehabilitation by Netflix?
If Carnahan saw these last films released directly in streaming with us, he had never collaborated with Netflix. It is now done. The platform chose it to shoot Rip, its first big production of 2026 with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
Expected on January 16, this thriller follows a team of Miami cops after the discovery of millions in cash in an abandoned hideout. As the news of the scale of the seizure spreads, no one knows what to think … or who to trust.
Netflix unveiled the first images of RIP during its Tudum event (they are visible on the replay of the event) and they announce a big show, with maximum voltage. In an interview given to Comingsoonthe director explained that he paid tribute to the classic police thrillers of the 70s, such as Serpico, the Prince of New York and Heat by Michael Mann:
“RIP was born out of a deeply personal experience that my friend lived, both as a father and as the head of the tactical team of the drugs of the Miami Dade police department. He is partly inspired by his life and then, from my love for these films which really value the characters and their relationships”.
On paper, and if the result is a height, RIP could well become one of the new hits on the platform. Go to Netflix in January to find out.
