Air Jordan 5 (V) Retro Green Beans Silver Trainer – All you Need to Know | Curated Mint

The Air Jordan 5 Retro Green Bean Silver edition is a trainer that is certainly sitting on the edge of the Air Jordan comfort zone. However, it’s still an extremely innovative and stylish shoe. Here’s all you need to know about it.

Ever since Nike and Michael Jordan collaborated on the creation of the first Air Jordan sneaker in 1984, they have only grown bigger. Today, the Nike Air Jordan trainer range is one of the most iconic sneaker brands in the entire world. If you know anything about sneakers then you will know about the importance of the Air Jordan franchise in terms of trainers.

One of the best things about Nike’s Air Jordan trainers, are the retro re-releases that they so often do. This means that old designs of Air Jordan’s are often re-invented in unique and cool ways. So, if you want to get a classic Air Jordan design, but in a modern and unique colour-way, this can be a great way to do so. The Air Jordan 5 Retro Green Bean’s are a perfect example of this.

Tinker Hatfield, one of Nike’s most famous and innovative designers, created the Air Jordan 5 Green Bean Silver. The Green Bean Jordan 5 was originally released in February of 1990. Although it took some inspiration from the Air Jordan 4, it was mostly a brand new design.

It is said that Tinker Hatfield found inspiration for the Air Jordan 5 Green Bean from the fighter jets of World War Two. This is most obviously seen through ‘shark teeth’ design on the side of the sole.

In 2006, Nike re-released the Green Bean 5s in a host of new innovative styles. These included:

  • LS ‘Grape’ Jordan V’s
  • LS ‘Burgundy’ Jordan V’s
  • ‘Fire Red’ Jordan V’s
  • ‘Stealth Blue’ Jordan V’s
  • ‘Green Bean’ Jordan V’s

In the long and rich history of the Air Jordan trainer franchise, the Air Jordan 5 Green Bean is most definitely one of Nike’s more adventurous colour-way designs. The shoe comes in a three tone colour-way of silver, lime green bean and flint grey.

Although the bold colour-way is something that is certainly makes this retro Air Jordan release stand out, it’s not it’s most exciting feature. In fact, it is the 3M reflective material that makes up the majority of the shoes upper that makes it so unique. By using the same material as high-visibility jackets, The Air Jordan Green Bean shows Nike’s ability to step outside their comfort zone and still create new and exciting styles. Even if you can’t quite imagine Michael Jordan himself sporting a pair of them.

Interestingly, when Nike originally released this shoe they did so with two different materials. One had an all nubuck upper, and the other had an upper made of completely reflective material. As is now evident, Nike kept the all reflective design of the shoe. Demonstrating how Nike still aren’t afraid to take risks with their designs.
