The Amazon Alexa line of smart speakers will soon be able to notice when they are interacting with children and move into a child-friendly mode. Parents will be able to set up Alexa voice profiles for children in the coming months, Amazon said at its device product launch event on Thursday,
Kids Mode will tune Alexa responses like the answers to the questions they ask, games, music, audio books and premium skills.
This feature works with the new $ 60, A smart speaker designed to fit in children’s bedrooms, is designed as a panda or tiger, but will also work with other Alexa devices.
The new capability helps address the difficult reality of parenting and technology. This is great when children can tap into educational res and use the Internet to stay in touch with friends and family while COVID-19 keeps them at home. But this is not great when the same technology exposes children to inappropriate content or hooks them to services that are not psychologically healthy.
Amazon also showcased a feature called Reading Sidekick, which can work for parents during home schooling . This will happen when children read aloud books and offer help and some help to the child’s struggle.
Reading Sidekick “is a feature I wanted … so badly 4yrs ago when the child was struggling with reading. The best way to help a child improve reading is to read aloud, but mostly Children hate doing this alone, so they suggest reading. For pets, “tech analyst Carolina Millenci tweeted. “Sadly, pets do not react.”
