A few weeks ago, it looked like Apple might launch a whole range of new Macs in October. Now, the pool of expected Macs is getting smaller. That’s because a prominent analyst has put the final nail in the coffin of the idea that new iMacs are just around the corner.
According to industry expert Ming-Chi Kuo, the 24-inch iMac is To be updated in 2024, This may sound exciting, as they may be out in only a matter of months, but it actually represents a delay compared to what we thought we already knew.
That’s because Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman claimed in July that the 13-inch MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and 24-inch iMac will all get the M3 chip at an October event. Since then, the two MacBooks have been apparently ruled out, but little has been said about the iMac so far.
Kuo didn’t explain why the iMac was apparently delayed, but pushing the device to a later date would make sense. Apple first launched the 24-inch iMac in spring 2021, so it would make sense to use this date again.
Apple may launch the M3 in the 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini later this year, but no information has been provided about an event at that time. Since the M3 is expected to be a big step up from the M2, you’d think Apple would want to introduce the chip to a much wider range of Macs at a showy event, giving the M3 plenty of airtime. This means we wouldn’t be surprised if there aren’t any more new Macs this year, including the iMac.
Reviving the iMac Pro?
Kuo also highlighted another long-rumored device: a The larger, higher-end iMac. Kuo believes that it will come with a 32-inch mini-LED display and launch in 2025, so there will be a long wait until it hits the market.
Since the iMac Pro was discontinued in 2021, there has been speculation that Apple is working on a follow-up, which will either be branded as the iMac Pro or simply a larger iMac. While Kuo doesn’t definitively solve that puzzle, he does suggest that the product will use expensive, high-end mini-LED technology, suggesting it could launch as an iMac Pro.
Kuo isn’t the only expert who believes a bigger iMac is coming. Gurman also shed some light on the topic in the summer of 2023, with the reporter claiming that the device will launch in the second half of 2024 at the earliest. Now it seems that even that date was a little optimistic.
Still, the fact that Apple is working on a 32-inch iMac will be good news for those who find the 24-inch iMac a little too compact. With a larger display and mini-LED technology, this could be one of the best Macs to launch in recent years.
