Because of creative disputes, the best actress of her generation decided to leave the serial project, overseen by A24 and Hulu, on which she had committed. We explain everything to you.
Kate Winslet should not be upset, not when you are lucky to be able to work with the best actress of her generation. The winner of an Oscar and an Emmy Award, left the dramatic series The Spot of Hulu, according to Deadline.
Kate Winslet was attached to the project as a star and executive producer, alongside the executive creator Ed Solomon and A24, who, in a very competitive context, won a deal with Hulu last August for a direct order from the series.
Creative disputes
According to some sources, the reasons for his departure from The Spot are creative and linked, at least in part, to the way in which the evolution of the project has influenced the approach required for the role.
The official synopsis of The Spot indicates: “When a reputable surgeon and her teacher husband begin to suspect that she could be responsible for the death of a child in an accident with a crime of escape, their quest for truth leads them into a tangle of suspicions and dark secrets, putting their determination and their relationship to the test when they are confronted with the possibility of hidden guilt and betrayal.“A pitch that curiously thinks of Clint Eastwood juror.
Discussions are underway with other renowned actresses, and production is still aimed at start -up in 2026, once the role has been recasted.
Precedents
Hulu has already found itself in a similar situation. In 2021, Kate McKinnon, who was originally to play the main role and ensured the executive production of The Dropout, left the project, and Amanda Seyfried was then chosen for the role, winning an Emmy Award.
Last year, Margaret Qualley, who was to play the main role in the mini-series on Amanda Knox, withdrew and was replaced by Grace Van Patten.
In addition to cinema, Kate Winslet has become an essential figure on television for several years. She recently played in the mini-series The Regime on HBO Max. Previously, she had played in the mini-series Mare of Easttown (HBO) which earned her the Emmy Award for the best actress in a mini-series. She had already won this award in the same category in 2011 for the Mildred Pierce series, also broadcast on HBO.
