‘Bawaal’ Trailer Explores the Battleground of Love with a Touch of History

DUBAI: A magnificent event unfolded on Sunday as the trailer of the much-anticipated film ‘Bawaal,’ starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, was unveiled aboard Dubai’s iconic floating ship, the Queen Elizabeth 2. Spanning over two minutes, the trailer offers a captivating glimpse into the story of a couple engaged in a war of love. Director Nitesh Tiwari shared his thoughts on the film, stating, “The way we perceive life and relationships is governed by our values, which are partly moral and immoral. Our values have undergone significant changes in the past decade. ‘Bawaal’ revolves around life and the changes it brings.”

The trailer introduces Varun as Ajju Bhaiya, a history teacher who falls in love with a lively girl named Nisha, portrayed by Janhvi. Varun’s entry is marked by a memorable dialogue: “Mahaul aesa banao ki logon ko mahaul yaad rahe” (Create an ambiance that people remember). The trailer then proceeds to a date between the two characters, showcasing a rapid-fire conversation.

Varun mentions Virat Kohli, and Janhvi responds with Rahul Dravid. Varun then says “Ferrari,” to which Janhvi counters with “scooty.” Varun concludes, “Humaare beech main kuch common nahi hai” (We don’t have anything in common). Janhvi’s character replies, “Kuch common hona zaroori hai?” (Is it necessary to have something in common?).

The trailer provides glimpses of their marriage and Varun’s desire to take his wife on a honeymoon to Europe. However, their marriage encounters problems, and Varun can be heard saying, “Life partner mili tumhare jaise defected piece” (I ended up with a defective life partner). The trailer also includes scenes from concentration camps and World War II.

Amidst an argument between the newly married couple, Janhvi’s character states, “Hum sab bhi thode Hitler jaise hai, jo humaare paas hai woh nahi chahiye but doosro ke paas hai woh achi lagti hai” (We all have a bit of Hitler in us; we don’t want what we have, but we find it appealing when others possess it).

Expressing his excitement about working with Nitesh, Varun commented, “It was on my bucket list to work with Nitesh Tiwari. I always asked him if I could come and see him. After 6-7 months, he finally called me… I loved it because my character has an arc. This film will teach a lot of people. It is important because it closely reflects the truth of life.”

Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala’s Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment in collaboration with Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and Nitesh Tiwari’s Earthsky Pictures, ‘Bawaal’ will have its global premiere on Prime Video on July 21.
