The “French” style furniture and the design of the rooms are all the rage right now and this is especially true in the bedroom. It is soft, romantic, and very workable once your know-how!
If you have made the decision (for any reason) to stick with your existing furniture, it can be very easy to transform them by painting them with eggshell paint and then distressing them by smoothing some areas down to natural wood – usually edges, handles and all the places you would naturally see wearing. Change the handles for the wooden knobs, the wallpaper on the back of the drawers, and the stencil on some French words. Finally, you can add the molding to complete the look.
If your closets cannot be repaired, why not indulge and invest in some sliding door wardrobes? Excellent for storage, they can also be placed in any uncomfortable space and above all there are many styles to choose from, so there is one that completes your new “French” look.
For the colors of the walls, cream is probably the best choice as it offers a little classic warmth and will show really well all the specially chosen pieces such as mirrors. Bare floorboards complete this style and painting them probably works best; choose cream, blue or gray to complete the pattern. Simple, full curtains with carefully chosen backs will frame the windows and give a feeling of Parisian luxury!
If you have a beautiful French-style bed or have renovated your old one using the previous transformation instructions, then this is where you can really enjoy yourself! Why not treat yourself to a new duvet cover? There are many French-style designs available at affordable prices. If you choose a classic motif like a cream-colored stand with delicately painted flowers in taupe on it, this will really help bring the room together. Patterned cushions, mattresses, bedspreads and bed frames will help create the illusion.
Accessories are also important for the general appearance. How about hanging the word “love” or “amour” over the bed, with a typical French painting above it? Delicate lamps and mirror frames will all look beautiful with other furniture. Finally, hang hearts on the hooks and drawer handles.
Complete the room with a chandelier and a French-style chair in the corner of the room draped with a throw and some pillows. You now have a French-style bedroom that is both affordable and workable.
