Bird singing is an old tradition in Singapore. In olden times, the local community used to follow this fascinating tradition where a lot of bird cages were placed in a bird corner, the Tiong Bahru Bird Arena, located at the end of Block 53. The cages swayed with the wind as the birds sang together. In perfect harmony.
It was considered as a major tourist attraction promoted by the Singapore Tourism Board. Following the demolition of the site and the block, this is now an almost extinct tradition and only a small group of Passionists still follow this age-old practice.
