Halloween isn’t for another week, but Netflix already has another treat for horror lovers. CreatureNew Turkish horror miniseries premieres among the 10 most popular shows on Netflix. It stars Taner Almez as Ziya, an idealistic young doctor whose determination to defeat death results in the creation of his own creature (Erkan Kolcak Kostandil).
If you think this sounds like a story from Mary Shelley’s famous novel, frankenstein, then you are not wrong. Çağan Irmak has put his personal touch on the story which is familiar and different at the same time. And we have three reasons why you should watch Creature This halloween. We also have a tip for watching: watch it in the original Turkish language with subtitles. The English dub is not as impressive as the original.
A fresh coat of paint on a classic story
almost every incarnation of frankenstein Takes some liberties with the original story, but Creature Takes more than most. Apart from changing the names of the major characters, the primary setting of the story is Istanbul in Turkey during the reign of the Ottoman Empire.
This means more than just a new backdrop for the story. This is a completely different culture with its own beliefs about death, science and beyond. Zia was initially more altruistic than Victor Frankenstein in the novel. In his mind, Zia sees conquering death as his final gift to mankind, and he truly believes it will change the world for the better. But like Dr. Frankenstein, Zia is so blinded by his ambition that he doesn’t realize he’s gone too far until it’s too late.
Erkan Kolcak Kostendil’s double performance
Because this story doesn’t work at all frankenstein, Erkan Kolcak Kostendil had the rare opportunity to play two roles in this incarnation. He plays Ehsaan, Zia’s mentor, who helped teach her that life does not end with the grave. Unfortunately for Ihsaan, his untimely death allows Zia to revive him as the Nameless Being.
The Creature proves to be a disappointment to its creator, and also a showcase for Kostendil to bring out the pathos of his character. The creature is capable of much more than just death or destruction, and it simply wants the same community and love that humans have for each other. Unlike Frankenstein’s monster in the book, the creature actually gets a taste of having real love in his life. At least until fate cruelly takes away his only chance for happiness.
creature and its creator
basically, frankenstein It is about the man and the monster, as both Victor and the monster play roles throughout the story. Creature Follows the same trajectory with the story of Zia and his creation. Surprisingly it doesn’t stray that far from the novel, although at times it feels like it is taking more influence from the novel. frankenstein Movies compared to the original book.
Despite this, the confrontation between Zia and his creature plays out in a satisfying way. Without spoiling things, their final meeting shows the birth of the creature. And while there are tragic elements, at least one member of this group of characters gets a chance to end the show at a happy place in their lives.
