Criminal minds: after more than two years of absence, Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) made his comeback in the series for the burial of a flagship character – News series on TV

In February 2020, Criminal Spirits said goodbye to television after 15 seasons and no less than 324 episodes. But while all the fans thought the dead and buried series, she made her comeback on Paramount+ for a sequel that saw Joe Mantegna (David Rossi), Paget Brewster (Emily Presentis), Aj Cook (Jennifer “JJ” Jareau), Adam Rodriguez (Luke Alvez) and Aisha Tyler (Dr. Tara Lewis).

Unfortunately, a flagship actor was missing: Matthew Gray Gubler alias Spencer Reid. At the time, the actor had explained that timetables had prevented him from returning to the series.

But after more than two years of waiting, the actor has just returned to criminal spirits on the occasion of the third episode of season 18, which was broadcast this Thursday, May 22 on Paramount+. Unfortunately, the circumstances of this long -awaited cameo are far from the happiest …

The circumstances around the return of Spencer Reid

Reid indeed finds his former colleagues on the occasion of Will Lamontagne's burial, Jr., JJ Jareau's husband (AJ Cook). The whole team has indeed met to pay him a last tribute.

Before the service started, Emily pointed out to Penelope that Aaron Hotchner (formerly played by Thomas Gibson), Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore, who will soon be on the poster for the Swat Spin-Off), and Spencer Reid sent flowers.

But while JJ is preparing to go out with his sons, Henry sees behind his mother Spencer, who made the trip to support his friend in this test. Once the ceremony is over, Spencer finds Emily, David, Penelope, Luke and Tara outside the church.

Unfortunately, his presence in the episode is short -lived. While everyone is gathered at Penelope after the burial, Spencer is absent subscribers. Emily explains that the superior of Reid had worked with JJ in the State Department and had therefore given him his morning.

The French public will however have to take his pain in patience before discovering the images of the return of Spencer Reid. Season 18 of criminal spirits should indeed be broadcast next fall on TF1.
