Deepika Padukone is currently one of the most popular and one of the highest paid Indian film actress. She was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on 5th January, 1986. Her father, Prakash is an internationally reputed former badminton while her mother, Ujjala is a travel agent.
She is also blessed with a younger sister, Anisha who is a golfer. She completed her secondary and senior secondary education in Sophia High School and Mount Carmel College respectively. Then she pursued a Bachelor Of Arts degree in Indira Gandhi National Open University(IGNOU) but later she dropped out as the modeling schedules were clashing with university timings.
She shifted the focus of her life from badminton to fashion modeling at the very age of ten and she began a full-time career under Prasad Bidapa. She gained recognition with different television commercials and modeling for other fashion awards.
At the age of 21, she shifted to Mumbai and stayed with her aunt. She soon began to receive film role offers and the director Farah Khan decided to cast her in Happy New Year.
In 2006, she announced that she would be making a debut Kannada film with Aishwarya. It was a romantic comedy and it proved to be a huge success. Her actual debut Hindi film was, however, Om Shanti Om, which became the highest grossing film of the year. During the annual Filmfare Awards ceremony, she has presented the Best Female Debut Award as well as nominated also in the Best Actress category.
Deepika starred in five films in 2010 namely Karthik Calling Karthik, Housefull, LafangeyParindey, Break KeBaad and Do and Die. Housefull was the most economical profitable film whereas the other films underperformed at the box office. However some of the producers as well the media were impressed by her performance in LafangeyParindey.
In 2011, she again starred in 3 films with actors like Amitabh Bacchan, John Abraham, AbhisekBacchan but she still failed to propel her career forward. Most of the critics told that she had lost her sparkle. But in 2012, the romantic movie Cocktail became a turning point in her career. Critics particularly praised Deepika’s performance as well as she was credited by the Filmfare as the Soul of the Film. This was a huge hit in the box office.The followingg film was Race 2 which although receiving negative reviews managed to be a commercial success.
The romantic comedy YehJawani Hai Deewani proved out to be a huge success for Deepika. Her performance was highly praised and this film collected an overall of $3 billion worldwide. The next one was Chennai Express which became one of the highest Bollywood grossing movies of all times.
Her performances 2012-2013 collectively won her several awards including Screen Award For Best Actress. In 2014, she appeared in a number of movies among which Piku turned out to be a massive hit in the box office earning around $1.40 billion worldwide. In 2015, BajiraoMastani again was a big hit and it became the 4th highest film grosser of that year.
