Who Needs This Service?
The e-Shram card is for workers in India’s unorganized sector who need official identification and access to government welfare schemes. Eligibility criteria:
- Age must be between 16 to 59 years
- Should NOT be a member of EPFO (Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation) or ESIC (Employees’ State Insurance Corporation)
- Should NOT be paying income tax
- Must be working in the unorganized sector (construction workers, street vendors, domestic workers, rickshaw pullers, agricultural laborers, fishermen, migrant workers, home-based workers, delivery partners, etc.)
Benefits: Workers receive a 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN), ₹2 lakh accident insurance coverage, ₹1 lakh for partial disability, and access to PM-SYM pension scheme (₹3,000/month after age 60).

Required Documents
The registration process requires minimal documentation:
- Aadhaar Card (mandatory)
- Aadhaar-linked mobile number (must be active and receiving SMS)
- Bank account details (account number, IFSC code)
- Educational qualification details (if any)
- Occupation information

Online Application Process (Self-Registration)
Step 1: Visit the Official e-Shram Portal
Go to the official registration portal: https://register.eshram.gov.in/ or https://eshram.gov.in and click “Register on eShram” under the “One Stop Solution” tab.
Step 2: Enter Mobile Number and Initial Details
On the Self Registration page:
- Enter your Aadhaar-linked mobile number (10 digits)
- Fill in the Captcha code shown on screen
- Select whether you are a member of EPFO/ESIC (select “No” if you’re an unorganized worker)
- Click “Send OTP” button
Portal Description: You will see a clean interface with fields for mobile number entry and EPFO/ESIC membership status dropdown.
Step 3: Verify Mobile Number with OTP
- Check your mobile for the OTP (One-Time Password)
- Enter the OTP in the designated field
- Click “Submit” button
Note: OTP is valid for 10 minutes. If not received, wait 2 minutes before clicking “Resend OTP.”
Step 4: Complete Aadhaar e-KYC
A new page will open for Aadhaar verification:
- Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar Number
- Check the box for “OTP Consent” (agreeing to receive OTP on Aadhaar-linked mobile)
- Enter the Captcha code
- Check “I Agree” to terms and conditions
- Click “Submit” button
Step 5: Aadhaar OTP Validation
- You will receive another OTP on your Aadhaar-registered mobile number
- Enter this OTP in the field provided
- Click “Validate” button
System will now fetch your basic details from Aadhaar database (name, date of birth, gender, address, photo).
Step 6: Fill Personal Information
The Registration Form will open with several sections:
A. Personal Details (pre-filled from Aadhaar):
- Name, Father’s/Husband’s Name
- Date of Birth, Gender
- Mobile Number, Email ID (optional)
- Marital Status, Category (SC/ST/OBC/General)
B. Address Details:
- State, District, Sub-District, Village/Town
- Pin Code, House/Building Number, Street/Road
- Confirm if current address is same as permanent address
C. Educational Qualification: Select from dropdown (Illiterate, Below Class 5, Class 5 Pass, up to Post Graduate)
D. Occupation Details:
- Nature of Work (select from 400+ occupations listed)
- Monthly Income
- Skill Type (if applicable)
E. Nominee Details:
- Nominee Name, Relationship
- Nominee Date of Birth
Click “Continue to Enter Other Details” after completing personal information.
Step 7: Enter Bank Account Details
- Enter Bank Account Number
- Confirm account number
- Enter IFSC Code (11 characters)
- Bank name and branch will auto-populate
- Click “Save and Continue”
Step 8: Preview and Submit
- Review all entered information carefully
- Read the Self-Declaration statement
- Check the “I Agree” consent box
- Click “Submit” button
Step 9: Final OTP Verification and UAN Generation
- Enter the final OTP sent to your mobile
- Click “Verify” button
- Your 12-digit UAN (Universal Account Number) will be generated immediately
- The e-Shram card will be displayed on screen
Step 10: Download Your e-Shram Card
- Click the “Download UAN Card” button at the top of the page
- Your e-Shram card PDF will download automatically
- Save this PDF and keep a copy on your mobile phone

Offline Application Process (Through CSC Centers)
If you cannot register online or don’t have an Aadhaar-linked mobile number:
Step 1: Locate Nearest CSC Center
Visit https://findmycsc.nic.in/csc to find your nearest Common Service Centre by entering:
- State name
- District name
The portal will show nearby CSC locations with addresses and contact numbers.
Step 2: Visit CSC with Required Documents
Carry the following to the CSC center:
- Aadhaar Card (original)
- Active mobile number
- Bank account passbook or statement
- Any educational certificates (if available)
Step 3: CSC Registration Process
- The Village Level Entrepreneur (VLE) at CSC will assist with registration
- They will use biometric authentication (fingerprint or iris scan) if your mobile is not Aadhaar-linked
- Fill the registration form with VLE assistance
- Verify all details before final submission
- Download and collect your e-Shram card
CSC services may charge a nominal fee (typically ₹10-30) for assisted registration. Do not pay more than this amount.

How to Check Registration Status and Download Card
Method 1: Using Mobile Number
- Go to https://eshram.gov.in
- Click “Already Registered” option
- Select “Update Profile Using Mobile”
- Enter your Aadhaar-linked mobile number
- Enter Captcha and click “Send OTP”
- Verify with OTP
- Your dashboard will open showing UAN number
- Click “Download UAN Card” button
Method 2: Using UAN Number
- Visit https://eshram.gov.in
- Click “Login” option
- Select “Login Using UAN” at the top
- Enter your 12-digit UAN Number
- Enter Date of Birth (DD/MM/YYYY format)
- Enter Captcha and click “Generate OTP”
- Verify with OTP sent to registered mobile
- Click “Download UAN Card” to get PDF
Method 3: Through DigiLocker
- Open DigiLocker app or visit https://digilocker.gov.in
- Search for “Ministry of Labour” in Issued Documents
- Select “UAN Card”
- Enter your Aadhaar number for authentication
- Card will be saved permanently in your DigiLocker

Common Problems and Solutions
Problem 1: OTP Not Received on Mobile
Causes:
- Mobile number not linked to Aadhaar
- Poor network signal
- Mobile inbox full
- DND (Do Not Disturb) activated for promotional SMS
Solutions:
- Verify your mobile number is linked to Aadhaar by visiting https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in
- Check network signal strength and move to area with better reception
- Wait 2-3 minutes before clicking “Resend OTP” (avoid multiple rapid attempts)
- Temporarily deactivate DND by sending SMS “START 0” to 1909
- If mobile not linked to Aadhaar, visit nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Centre or register through CSC with biometric authentication

Problem 2: Aadhaar Verification Failed
Causes:
- Name mismatch between Aadhaar and entered details
- Incorrect Aadhaar number entered
- Date of birth mismatch
- Aadhaar database synchronization issues
Solutions:
- Verify Aadhaar number is entered correctly (12 digits, no spaces)
- Ensure name matches exactly as printed on Aadhaar card (including spelling, spacing, and punctuation)
- Double-check date of birth format and accuracy
- If Aadhaar details were recently updated, wait 7-15 days for UIDAI database synchronization
- Try registration through CSC center with biometric authentication as alternative
Problem 3: “Already Registered” Error Message
Cause: Your Aadhaar number is already registered in the e-Shram database.

- Click “Already Registered? Update” option on homepage
- Log in using your mobile number or UAN
- Download your existing card
- Update details if needed through the profile section
- If you don’t remember registering, call helpline 14434 to verify and retrieve UAN

Problem 4: Bank Account Verification Failed
Causes:
- Incorrect IFSC code entered
- Account number mismatch
- Bank not linked to NPCI/DBT system
- Account holder name doesn’t match Aadhaar name
Solutions:
- Verify IFSC code from bank passbook or statement (11 characters)
- Double-check account number (enter without spaces or hyphens)
- Ensure account is in your name (matching Aadhaar name)
- For Jan Dhan or no-frills accounts, confirm account is active
- Contact your bank to ensure account is enabled for DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer)

Causes:
