Future Tense: Tense is the verb that denotes the time when an action or event took place. On the basics, tenses are of three types, that is, Present tense, Past tense, and future tense. In English Grammar, aspect is a property of verbs that communicate how an activity, occasion, event, or state, meant by a verb, stretches out after some time.

Definition of Future Tense

According to Cambridge DictionaryFuture Tense is “the form of a verb that indicates the action or events that will happen or exist in the future some time”.

According to Collins Dictionary, Future tense is  “a form of the tense of verbs used when the action or event described is to occur after the time of utterance.”

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the future tense as “a verb tense that is used to refer to the future.”

Structure of Sentences in Future Tense

Future Tense sentences can be in three forms, that is, Positive or Affirmative, Negative, Interrogative sentences. Below is the structure of all three forms and examples to make you understand better.

Types of Future Tense

In English , there are four types of future tense:

  1. Simple Future Tense
  2. Future Perfect Tense
  3. Future Continuous Tense
  4. Future Perfect Continuous Tense

1. Simple Future Tense: The change in verb form which is used to denote/ defines an action that will happen in the future, then such verb is used as simple future tense.

2. Future Perfect Tense: The change in verb for in which is used to indicate an action that will be taking place in the future.

  • I will have dressed up by the time you reach home.

3. Future Continuous Tense: The change in verb from which is used to denote/defines those actions which will be in progress/motion at some point in the future.

  • It will be raining from tomorrow.

4. Future Perfect Continuous Tense: The verb forms that denotes/defines a verb tense that describes actions that will continue up until a point in the future.
