With The public beta version of Android 11 is officially available, Google is speeding up its mobile updates. This should also include traces of its mid-range pixel range, which should be called Pixel 4A and 4A XL. In May of last year, Google launched the Pixel 3A and 3A XL. It was the first foray into Pixel phones in a more affordable price range – and perhaps the return of Google the cheapest Nexus days of yore. Priced at hundreds of dollars less than its main Pixel 3 counterpart, the Pixel 3A phones have shaved off key features such as wireless charging and water resistance. But it remained a viable alternative for Android users looking for a lower-cost Pixel phone experience.

The strategic movement worked and Pixel 3A Doubles Google Pixel Sales by this summer. As such, we expect suites for them soon. In addition, Google‘s competitors have released a number of its own mid-range handsets. In April alone, Apple launched its new $ 399 iPhone SE, Samsung announced its next mid-range range Galaxy A Phones and Motorola debuted under $ 300 Moto G Power and G Stylus. More than ever, phone manufacturers are targeting people on a tighter budget who might otherwise have had their old phone for another year.

In anticipation of the expected Google announcement of the Pixel 4A and 4A XL, we’ve gathered the most compelling and interesting rumors about the devices. And until the launch happens, check back often while we update the roundup.

Pixel 4A price: $ 399 seems most likely

Last year’s Pixel 3A cost $ 399, £ 399 and AU $ 649; the 3A XL costs $ 479, £ 469 and AU $ 799. It wouldn’t be surprising if Google keeps the same pricing model this year for its Pixel 4A phones. The reasons are twofold: raising the price of a device specially designed for budget-conscious users would be a strange decision. Second, the high-end phone manufacturers seem to view $ 399 as a good price. Apple’s new iPhone SE, for example, costs $ 399, as does Samsung’s Galaxy A51, which is the most advanced phone of its latest Galaxy A series. A simulated billboard showing the $ 399 the price posted by technology specialist Evan Blass also noted the same price.

Additionally, Stephen Hall of 9to5Google tweeted that the Pixel 4A could be even cheaper, starting at $ 349 instead. This would make it even more competitive compared to the iPhone SE and would attract more budget-conscious users.

Pixel 4A running Android 10, maybe Android 11?

Google typically unveils its latest mobile operating system in May at its annual developer conference known as Google I / O
. However, due to concerns related to COVID-19, the the event was canceled this year. Now Android 11 beta is available to the public. Optimistically, the Pixel 4A could run the finalized version of Android 11 right out of the box. However, the schedule may be too short. What can happen instead is that the Pixel 4A is running Android 10 when it enters users’ hands, but will be updated to Android 11 later. It would make sense since last year, the Pixel 3A was running Android 9, which was released to the public in 2018, despite the third beta version of Android 10 announced the same day as the Pixel 3A during I / O.

Pixel 4A release date: could be June or July

The launch of the Pixel 3A being the only reference to continue, it is difficult to determine with precision the launch date of the Pixel 4A. Last year the phone debuted in May, but this month has passed since. (A report from the German site Caschys Blog predicted the phone would be launched on May 22 in Europe, which obviously ended up being false.)

Since Google was going to announce Android 11 on June 3, but postponed it, it could mean that the phone will be revealed in June. This would make sense given that tech companies don’t usually hold two notable product launches every month. Still others say it could happen even later. David Ruddock of Android Police, for example, tweeted that the phone would be delayed until July.

Pixel 4A design: maybe a perforated camera, a headphone jack

There’s no way of knowing what the Pixel 4A officially looks like at this point, but rendered images from the device from Indian technology website 91Mobiles shows the phone with a perforated camera and a headphone jack. The perforated camera is said to be compatible with the display panel mockups mentioned above, and is a trendy design that is featured on the recent Galaxy S20 and OnePlus 8 phones. The supposedly leaked images of Google’s Pixel 4A wallpaper , reported by XDA Developers and the TecnoLike Plus YouTube channel, also suggest a punched camera. Keeping the headphone jack wouldn’t be too unexpected since the Pixel 3A also has one. But as more and more phones do not have an audio port, including the Pixel 4, Google could in any case keep it or leave it on the Pixel 4A.

Pixel 4A camera: can have the same dual cameras as Pixel 4

One of the most compelling things about the Pixel 3A was that it had the same great camera as the Pixel 3, and it would make sense that Google would package the Pixel 4A with the same camera hardware as the Pixel 4. This may include two rear (a standard 12.2 megapixel camera and a 16 megapixel telephoto lens) as well as an 8 megapixel front camera. But don’t be too surprised if Google decides to mix it up by not copying itself exactly. Last year, it did not roll over the second front-facing wide angle camera on the Pixel 3 to the Pixel 3A, and it debuted in accelerated video mode on the Pixel 3A which was new for Pixel phones.

Pixel 4A and 5G connectivity?

When Google launched the Pixel 4 and 4 XL in October 2019, the company did not disclose any 5G plan and hasn’t revealed any 5G plans since. It would be surprising if the company decided that the mid-level Pixel 4A would be its first 5G phone; one would think that this would save a marquee functionality for the next flagship of Pixel 5 (expected in October). But thanks to Qualcomm, more affordable Snapdragon 765 chipset, cheaper phones may have 5G connectivity and inexpensive 5G phones are already available, such as Coolpad Legacy 5G and the TCL 10 5G, so it’s not outside the realm of possibilities.
