Before she dons the cape as DC Studios’ next Supergirl and stars alongside Julianne Moore in Netflix’s upcoming series Sirens, Australian actress Milly Alcock is still haunted by one difficult moment from her breakout role in House of the Dragon — her first day on set.
The Worst First Day Imaginable
Alcock played Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the early episodes of House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones prequel, before the character was later taken over by Emma D’Arcy for the older version. Though Alcock made a brief return in Season 2, her initial experience left a deep mark.
Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Alcock revealed that after her first day of filming, a very senior member of the production decided she needed a drama coach brought in. That decision shook her confidence.
“It just confirmed what I already thought — that I’m not very good at this job,” she shared candidly, showing a rare moment of vulnerability for one of television’s rising stars.
Struggling With Self-Doubt Despite Success
Jimmy Fallon tried to lift her spirits, pointing out her popularity among fans and the fact that House of the Dragon won the Golden Globe for Best Drama Series in 2023. But Alcock remained modest:
“Yeah, but I didn’t win anything,” she replied.
“You did,” Fallon corrected her. “Because your show won — and you’re a big part of that.”
It’s clear that despite her skyrocketing career, Alcock still battles with imposter syndrome — a feeling many in the entertainment industry (and beyond) know all too well.
A Bright Future Ahead
Thankfully, things are looking up. With major roles lined up in DC’s Supergirl and Netflix’s Sirens, Milly Alcock is stepping into the spotlight with renewed strength and a growing global fanbase. And hopefully, those early doubts will soon be replaced by well-earned confidence.
You can stream Seasons 1 and 2 of House of the Dragon now, exclusively on HBO Max (formerly Max).
