How to Clean Microfiber Car Cloths: A Step-by-Step Guide

You can’t clean your car without a few microfiber cloths in your arsenal. While these pieces of cloth are effective in keeping your interior and car body clean, it’s important that you care for them properly through cleaning. In this guide, we’ll take you through the steps so that you can clean microfiber car cloths, and get them ready for your detailing needs.

Step 1: Pre-Wash Preparation

Shake Out the Cloths: Shake out each microfibre cloth before washing, rinsing or drying to remove loose debris.

Sort by Use: Keep cloths used for different purposes (waxing, glass cleaning, drying) separated from one another so you don’t cross-contaminate them.

Step 2: Washing the Microfiber Cloths

Wash in cold or warm water: Hot water will damage the fibres.

Picking the Right Detergent: Pick a good, mild, liquid detergent – one without fabric softeners, bleaches, or perfumes. All of those things clog up the microfibers of your detergent and make it less effective.

A gentler direction for the Machine: choose a gentle or delicate cycle on your washing machine to protect the fibres from extreme agitation.

Step 3: Drying the Microfiber Cloths

Dry In The Air: Whenever possible, dry microfibre cloths in the air by hanging them up in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight.

Use Low Heat Settings: Literally low heat settings! If it’s a must to dry your prom dress, just use the low heat setting or the no heat setting. You don’t want to melt those fibers.

Don’t use Dryer Sheets: Dryer sheets may deposit a film on the cloths that reduces their effectiveness.

Step 4: Storing Microfiber Cloths

Fold and Store Properly: When the cloths are dry, fold them neatly and store in a clean, dry place. Never store in dusty or dirty areas.

Separate Bins: Use separate bins or bags to keep different kinds of cloths so you don’t contaminate eachother.

Given that conclusion earlier, it follows that if you clean your microfibre car cloths properly, then they will stay effective and last a long time. Phew! Once you do it a few times, cleaning your microfibre car cloths properly will become second nature.
