Your password is the key to Windows 11, as it protects your files and your important information. However, there are some cases where you might want to remove the login password in Windows.
One such case is when you are sharing a PC with someone and do not necessarily have anything private on your system. Although we don’t recommend it, removing the password can also mean faster login to your PC.
If you want to remove that layer of system security, here’s how you can remove your login password on Windows 11.
some notes
Before we get started, we want you to keep a few important things in mind. If you’re signed in to your Windows 11 PC with a Microsoft account, you can’t remove your login password or PIN very easily. This is for security reasons. You will be forced to always have some type of password with a Microsoft account. You can only remove login passwords on accounts created locally, or, as Microsoft says, from “offline accounts.”
However, we suggest you consider purchasing a PC with Windows Hello built-in, or set it up after purchase if you can. These PCs may use an infrared webcam to scan your face, or use your fingerprint to sign into your PC. You can also purchase an external Windows Hello webcam and fingerprint reader.
This technically removes your login password or PIN, since you never have to type anything on the keyboard. It also helps keep your PC more secure, reducing the risk of someone guessing and entering your password.
Removing login password on Windows 11
If you have set up your Windows 11 PC with a local (offline) account, you can follow our steps below on how to remove the login password. Again, these steps do not work with a Microsoft account due to security reasons.
step 1: Choose start menu icon and then choose settings gear icon,
step 2: In the Settings app, select accounting book In the sidebar. then choose Sign-in options,
step 3: under How to sign inchoose Password,
step 4: Choose Change button below Password Social class.
Step 5: Enter your current password and select next,
Step 6: Leave everything else blank and select finish,
Step 7: Close the Settings app. Now your login password will be removed.
Now that your password has been removed, you will no longer need to enter it on the Windows 11 login screen. You should be logged in automatically once you turn on your PC. Or, if you’re sharing your PC, you just need to click on your profile icon to sign in.
However, once again, it is not safe to sign in to Windows 11 without a password. Other people can access your files. And, if your account has administrative privileges, people with bad intentions can also use your account to access other people’s files. It is a best practice to use a strong password or Windows Hello. We have a guide that can also help you choose a secure password manager.
