How to send a text message from a computer

If you’re on the computer and a message comes in on your phone, wouldn’t it be nice if you could reply without picking it up? Yes, it will, and there are great apps and services that enable that capability.

Whether you use Apple or Android, you can send and receive text messages on a Mac, Windows PC, or Chromebook. Keep reading to determine which option works best for you.

This solution is mainly for those who use Windows 10 PCs and Android phones. It relies on Microsoft’s built-in Your Phone app, introduced in the April 2018 update, and its Your Phone companion app for Android. This combination allows users to send and receive texts in Windows 10, receive Android notifications in Action Center, and access pictures stored on the phone. The Your Phone app also supports iPhones, but it’s limited to forwarding webpages from Microsoft Edge for iOS. This iPhone support does not include text messaging, notifications, and photo access.

This method requires the following:

• Android 7.0 Nougat or newer.
• Windows 10 April 2018 Update or newer

Note: For Windows 11 users, the method below is similar to sending and receiving texts on a Windows 11 PC, but there are a few differences. The Windows 11 method is shorter and simpler, and uses a native app called Phone Link (instead of your phone). The Phone Link method is also guided by the app itself, so follow the on-screen instructions that appear when you open Phone Link on Windows 11.

choose allow For all the permissions you want to grant, then select continue, You will then be asked to allow the Your Phone mobile app to always run in the background. choose refuse Or allow,

Step 7: The mobile app will perform one final check to make sure the pairing is working. choose Done To finish the pairing process.

When two devices are paired, select messages Icon on the toolbar on the left to send and receive messages in Windows 10 using an Android phone. This method does not work when using third-party apps as the primary text messaging platform. Note that users can also retrieve photos, make calls, and receive notifications from the phone.

How to send text via iMessage (iOS, iPadOS, macOS)

This method usually requires an Apple device with a cellular connection. However, because it also relies on Apple’s iMessage format, users can bypass the cellular connection when sending messages to another Apple device.

iPhone supports two types of messages. Users can send iMessages over the Internet via Wi-Fi or mobile data, which are highlighted by blue bubbles and are only received on Apple devices. And iPhones also send standard SMS and MMS messages on specific wireless carrier plans, which are received by non-Apple devices and highlighted by green bubbles.

This is an important distinction, because Apple device owners without a cellular connection or associated phone number can still send messages to other Apple device owners — they just need an Apple ID.

However, to text all contacts with and without an Apple device, users need an Apple device with a cellular plan. Here, we assume the user has an iPhone, although an iPad with a SIM card and compatible mobile plan also works.

Step 8: Simply toggle the switch to the right of the Apple device you want to send and receive SMS and MMS messages on.

Every time a device is enabled, you must enter the six-digit confirmation code displayed on the iPhone. Doing this will confirm that you want to send and receive SMS and MMS messages on your Apple device. You may or may not need to enter a confirmation code depending on setup.

To send a message to any Apple device, select pencil icon Located above the contact list. After that, enter your desired recipient and compose the message as you normally would.

Keep in mind that the standard text message limit of 160 characters also applies when using iMessages. Text longer than 160 characters will likely count as two or more texts for billing purposes, depending on its length.

Remember, iMessages are “free” when devices are connected to Wi-Fi. However, they do count towards your monthly data allotment when using a 4G or 5G network, so be sure to stay connected to a local wireless network whenever possible. Standard SMS and MMS messages are sent through your wireless mobile carrier.

How to Send Text Via Android Messages (Android & PC)

This method works great for Android phone users, and it doesn’t matter what type of computer you use – all you need is a browser and the Messages by Google mobile app. Android Messages lets Android smartphone owners text directly from the web interface, no matter what device they’re using. It works on desktop, laptop or even Apple devices. You’ll need to set the Messages by Google app as the default app on your phone, so make sure to do that before you get started.

step 4: Choose QR code scanner Press the button and use your handset to scan the QR code from the Android Messages homepage. This will link your devices and your browser, and you’ll see the messages and contacts appear on your other devices as they sync.

Step 5: Use the web interface to chat with friends and family, just like you do on an Android smartphone.

You won’t have to re-scan your QR code every time you use the platform because you can sync your devices. To do this, select Yes When the web interface asks if you want it to remember your computer.

Additionally, you can also transfer SMS messages with the email client on your phone. You can practice this technique for sending and receiving text messages even if you don’t have a cell phone.
