“I thought it was to play Superman”: this actor of the DC film had a funny surprise during the cast

After “The Amazing Spider-Man”, Skyler Gisondo will be in another superhero film on July 9: “Superman”, where he plays Jimmy Olsen. But it is not for this role that he thought he was auditioning.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a misunderstanding! In November 2023, Skyler Gisondo joined David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan in the casting of the new Superman to play Jimmy Olsen, the colleague photographer of Clark Kent and Lois Lane at Daily Planet. Which, for many, was a very good idea because it is not difficult to imagine this actor, seen in The Amazing Spider-Man, long live the holidays, Licorice Pizza or the Santa Clarita Diet and The Rights Gemstones, in the skin of this secondary character with comic accents.

But the main interested party had seen things differently: “I thought I was spending the cast to play Superman”he tells Collider. “In my head, I said to myself 'listening, I would not have been my first choice for the role, but James [Gunn] Still off the beaten track, so I see the idea, it would be more a daily superman and it's pretty cool. ' Then, very quickly, I told myself that I totally saw the thing. “

“We auditioned, I sent a video, then my representatives called me to tell me that the production wanted to see me again. I then told them 'great! But just to clarify things, because I know it's a false script: it's good for playing Superman?' There there was a great silence on the other end of the line, and one of them answered me 'no, it was not wrong, it said Jimmy.' They then wondered how I could have been recalled when I did not even know for what role I auditioned.

Skyler Gisondo, Nicholas Hoult: same fight?

On July 9, failing to embody it, Skyler Gisondo will be alongside Superman in the role of Jimmy Olsen. But he will not be the only actor in the casting to have inherited another character than that of the DC superhero: Nicholas Hoult had indeed auditioned to play Clark Kent (really, in his case) but, like Cillian Murphy at the time of Batman Begins, it was finally Lex Luthor that he interpreted against David Corenswet.
