“I was afraid to accept”: 9 years ago, this actor refused a role in the Harry Potter saga

Recently invited to the podcast of Louis Theroux, the famous actor Michael Cera revealed that he had declined a role in the saga of “fantastic animals”, prequel to the adventures of Harry Potter.

Particularly known for his roles in the Arrested Development series, in Scott Pilgrim or more recently in Barbie, the Canadian actor Michael Cera who is currently playing the Phoenician Scheme, could have acquired an even more important notoriety a few years ago.

“It would probably have represented a 6 -year commitment”

Indeed, as he recently revealed it when he was invited in Louis Theroux's podcasthe could have joined the Harry Potter universe created by JK Rowling by joining the casting of fantastic animals, prequel to the adventures of the Magizoologist Norbert Dragonneau.

Cera does not specify which character he was supposed to embody in the magic saga, nor even if a particular role had been proposed to him, but he says that he preferred to decline for a very simple reason: to avoid too much exposure.

“I think I just refused to get involved because it would probably have represented a 6 -year commitment or something like that”he entrusted to Louis Theroux.

“I was afraid of accepting things that would make me too famous”

“But I also made the conscious choice to limit my exhibition a little, or at least try to control it a little. And I had the feeling that making children's films … I was afraid of accepting things that would make me too famous.”

Since the first part of fantastic animals, released 9 years ago, Michael Cera is now considering things a little differently, and has not been said to be closed to a possible foray on the blockbusters.

“I think I have exceeded this feeling, but I think that I resonated at the time. But if an apparently interesting frankness presented itself to me today, I do not think I would leave the office by slamming the door because of the fact that it is a franchise”he added, specifying that he could agree to play a superhero, provided that the latter is “Fan of dairy products”.

And with regard to the Harry Potter universe, Michael Cera could find a new opportunity to integrate it by interpreting one of the many characters in the future series to come on the HBO Max platform.
