Robert Kirkman’s Invincibles universe has long been primed for the video game treatment, but now we’re starting to see some Invincibles games ahead of the second season of the TV show adaptation on Amazon Prime Video. The first of them to come to PC Invincible Gift: Atom EveA visual novel RPG about an invincible character who can reshape atoms at will.

There is no dearth of superhero games these days; Hellboy and Spider-Man are getting new games this week. Still, Invincible fans will want to keep an eye on this game as it essentially lets people play the comic book, having Atom Eve make important decisions early in her superhero career.

Bringing comic books to life

Invincible Gift: Atom Eve is a straightforward visual novel with turn-based RPG battles. As Atom Eve navigates her daily dual life as a superhero and a high school senior in college, I had to make important choices and decide what she would say in conversation. The two chapters of the game I played were set in the early days invincible, In fact, Mark’s first appearance as an invincible (superhero) is a central narrative element in these episodes.

While the series bears the name Invincible, this game focuses entirely on Atom Eve and her relationships, which I appreciate. The chapters in these preview builds dealt with the pressure from her parents and teachers and her relationship with fellow hero Rex Splode and the balance between her superhero duties as she took on the Mauler Twins and showed Invincible the superhero ropes.

This led to some key options including outcomes; Namely, Rex became very angry at Atom Eve because I let him invite Mark on a mission without consulting Rex. Although I knew most of the major plot points because I’d read the comics and watched the TV show, actively participating in and influencing them allowed me to see these moments in a different, more intimate way. This is a perspective I haven’t really analyzed before, given that it’s uniquely suited to video games.

Atom Eve is one of my favorite characters in the comics, so seeing the spotlight on him over Mark makes the game even more exciting for me. Invincible Gift: Atom Eve However, not all visual novels are talking; Sometimes, she gets into fights. And when she does, the game turns into a turn-based RPG. In battles, Atom Eve has a certain amount of energy to spend each turn of the battle. I had to choose whether to use it to create a shield, use attacks that could unnerve enemies, or attack from a distance or in melee. Although I found all the battles very easy, there is some strategy to spending energy appropriately.

The best formula I found was to have Atom Eve set up a shield to block damage and then attack the enemies’ health with whatever energy I had left. It got me through most of the fights without taking any damage, so I expect difficulty scaling and skill tree abilities to come later. Invincible Gift: Atom Eve It will be a little more challenging when it releases.

Even if it isn’t, it’s obvious Invincible Gift: Atom Eve This is shaping up to be a very narrative-focused experience. This puts a lot of pressure on the presentation art to deliver, and thankfully it does. It looks and feels just as charming and beautiful as the comic book and the TV show, striking a delicate balance between the two with its narrative and presentation.

The deeper focus on Atom Eve and even some of the game’s scenes are more akin to the comic than the TV show. That said, the art style and character designs are in line with what fans of the TV show have come to expect. Whether you’re a fan of the comics, the TV show, or both, Invincible Gift: Atom Eve This looks like it will offer a cleaner look at the early days of Atom Eve.
