“It could be odious”: the director of the Bronzés returns to a complicated shoot with Michel Blanc

French actor Michel Blanc, who died last October, was complicated to manage on the set of the film “Les Grands Dukes”. Its director Patrice Leconte says.

Patrice Leconte and Michel Blanc, a love story? Yes, of course, but not only! Passing Europe 1 For the promotion of his new novel, the director of the Bronzés returned without eyeshadow on his collaboration with the interpreter of Jean-Claude Dusse, whom he rubbed shoulders a lot on the sets:

“He was quite secret”

“We still made seven films together, so he arrives at equal with Jean Rochefort”. Among these feature films, there are of course the three parts of the bronzes with the splendid, but also come to my house, I live in a girlfriend, my wife is called back, circulate there is nothing to see, Mr. Hire (1989) and the great dukes (1996). To be complete, Blanc will also be the co-series of specialists, produced by Leconte, and the latter will make a cameo in Marche in the shade.

“We were very close when we met to make cinema, to make films. It was as if we had left the day before, but in fact, we were not intimate. He was quite secret, and he said of me that I was very secret, when I have the impression of being on a sideboard with the rest of the world (…). But said to him: 'Patrice, I don't know him.

Despite the death of the actor on October 3 at 72, Patrice Leconte has a fairly painful memory of one of their common comedies, the great dukes, in which Blanc embodies a secondary role, that of an impressario a bit crook:

“It is curious to evoke Michel Blanc by evoking a memory [peu] satisfying”says Leconte. “I do not know what he had, he should not be on his plate during the shooting. He is perfect in the film and it is only the result that counts, so the rest we don't care. But he was not as friendly as what I knew about him, he could be odious … Even the three tenors – Marielle, Rochefort and Noiret – asked me:” I don't know, maybe he was in a bad pass … “

As emphasizes The Dauphiné liberatedMichel Blanc gave his vision of the filming of the Great Dukes in his official biography, and he does not seem to have had good memories:

“Patrice asked me to make the film because the TVs wanted an actor from the generation below to counterbalance the trio of stars. This comedy was not ashamed to do, but I had the impression that Patrice wanted to go very quickly on the set, as if he wanted to get rid of it. And I was annoyed. indifferent.
