Mehndi special. It does not only make your hands brighter but also gives a complete traditional touch to your entire look. In a narrower sense mehndi is applied only at the time of a wedding. The bride (sometimes grooms as well) applies various designs and patterns on her palm and feet as well with colours.

Arabic Style:

Arabic style mehndi designs are the simplest one among all. In this pattern, the full hands are not being covered with the designs. Only diagonal part of the palm is covered and a single finger (mostly the index finger) is designed with mehndi. Arabic mehndi designs are most popular in Middle Eastern countries. As the inhabitants don’t like heavy patterns on their palm for any occasions, Arabic pattern has gained much popularity there.

Circle Motif:

This is another simple pattern of mehndi designs. In circle motif, the designer makes a circle in the center of the palm and the back of the hand. The rest of the designs are being scattered around the circle that is made. Many of the designers prefer floral pattern in circle motifs. They are easy to do over a circle. Circle motifs are not too heavy patterns. It can be easily applicable for Eid or Karva Chauth. In circle motifs, fingers are sometimes covered with designs or sometimes they are left empty. Only the space around the nail is being covered with solid mehndi colour or red colour.

Line pattern

Line patterns are much easier than other designs. In this pattern, no curves or objects are being drawn. The entire Fashion design is based on geometric lines. In some of the line patterns, the entire palm is covered with the lines to make a specific design like cheques or geometric shapes. The cheques can be filled with solid colours or can be left empty. Line designs are easy and can look better if you are attending a family party or a small get-together.

Flower Motif

This is the most common yet easy pattern in mehndi designs. The flower pattern is the most popular among the brides as well. In this motif, a flower is being made at the center of the palm. You can have heavy designs within and around the flower or can have light designs as well. In flower motif, it is important to have designs on the fingers. It complements the designs made on the palm. The same kind of round flower can be made on the back of the hand to match up with the main design.

Leafy motifs

Leafy motifs are more like Arabic designs. Some of the designers add chequered or line patterns with a leafy motif. It gives a mix and matches look to the mehndi designs. In leafy patterns, a set of leafs are being made throughout a side of the palm. To make it artistic, designers add some curvy lines over it. Along with the leafy pattern, they add geometric lines to cover the surrounding area. This is also a simple mehndi pattern for any casual occasions.

Bengali Mehndi Design

Mehndi is not so much popular in Bengali wedding or occasions. They prefer Aaltaa (red coloured liquid to paint the foot) over henna for any holy occasions, especially weddings. Now, as all the cultures of the nation have mixed up with each other, Bengalis too apply mehndi in weddings and other communities apply aaltaa to colour their hands.

In Bengali tranditional mehndi designs, a solid red coloured circle is made at the centre of the palm. The finger tips are coloured too along with the nails with the same red liquid, aaltaa. Same pattern is being used on the back of the hand and also on the feet.

Round and Ring Pattern

Some people prefer simplest designs of mehndi that does not cover much of your hand but looks like a tattoo or so. For them, the ring pattern will be suitable. In this pattern, only the fingers are being designed. Small round patterns are made that look like fashionable rings on your finger. This design is not much popular yet simple to have.

Bride and Groom Pattern

This is comparatively tougher than the other motifs mentioned above. This pattern takes little more time that the others. In this pattern, a bride and a groom (precisely a human figure) is made at the centre of the palm. The rest of the hand may or may not be covered with heavy designs. In wedding ceremonies when you need heavy designs, the designers cover the entire hand with small motifs so that it looks congested and heavy.

In other cases, if you make a human figure, you may not have overcrowded designs surrounding the main design. You can have light curve or line motifs all over the palm to complement the main human figure design.

These are few of the simple mehndi designs that anyone can have while going for small occasions. Gone are those days when mehndi used to be a major wedding function. Now it has become an intrinsic part of almost every traditional Indian occasion. These mehndi designs are easy and don’t need any special designer. You can have these patterns on your own at home. These designs can be used as temporary tattoos as well if you are scared of having a permanent one.
