Hard blow for whodunit fans on Netflix! The platform has just canceled two series including a police comedy that we had particularly liked.
Times are hard on Netflix. The proof with the cancellation, suddenly, of two American series after only one season: Pulse and the residence will not have season 2, to the greatest regret of the fans.
Cordelia Cupp had charmed Internet users
Released last March, the residence took us to the heart of the White House, decor of a life-size investigation at La Cluedo. Uzo Aduba interpreted Cordelia Cupp there, a brilliant detective passionate about ornithology who knew, at the end of the 8 episodes of season 1, find the murderer among 157 suspects.
Despite a few lengths, the residence had charmed us, with its charismatic characters, its humor, its perfectly tied intrigue and its sets. The subscribers were also convinced by the work of the showrunner Paul William Davies and his teams: on Allociné, the series offers the excellent note of 4 out of 5. But that's it, that is not enough.
Even if the residence made a mixed launch according to The Netflix and figures site, She caught up over the weeks, ever attracting more spectators. Finally, she performed as well as the diplomat, who is ensured to return to our screens.
The strength of producer Shonda Rhimes, who has been collaborating with the platform for several years (on Bridgeton in particular) does not seem to have weighed in the balance, while we counted on her name to tip the balance in favor of a renewal.
We can only let our disappointment know in the face of the cancellation of the residence: the series was able to create a remarkable main character that we were looking forward to seeing on the screen. We hope that one thing: that the brilliant Uzo Aduba manages to find a new role up to its talent.
A first that turned to vinegar
The cancellation of Pulse was a little more predictable. The American medical series, a first for Netflix, has never managed to really take off since its launch last April. If the French spectators gave it the lenient average of 3.6 out of 5, it was not as well received in the other territories.
Pulse took us to the heart of the Miami's busiest level 1 trauma center where a young emergency artist Danny Simms (Willa Fitzgerald) is unexpectedly promoted to the position of Chief Resident in the midst of the fallout of a romantic relationship.
Walking on the flowerbeds of Grey's Anatomy without ever exceeding it, Pulse lacked personality and cachet to please the general public. In an ocean filled with medical series, she had nothing more to stand out (unlike The Pitt on Max).
One of its creators, Carlton Cuse, had also moved on to something else for a few weeks already. He works with Netflix on the adaptation of a novel by Dan Brown which marks the big return of Robert Langdon, after the Da Vinci Code trilogy …
