Nike Air Max 1 Trainers – All You Need To Know | Curated Mint

The first trainer to feature the Nike Air technology was the Nike Air Max 1, this trainer changed the way we think of trainers to this day. Here’s a brief look at the history behind it.

Tinker Hatfield changed the sneaker game forever with this pair of trainers. This design was the first to feature the air bubble unit outside of the shoe, and ever since then the Air Max has become of the best selling designs that Nike has ever made. Within the past few years Nike have pushed the Air Technology, now their are many variations of the Air Max 1’s in different colours, style and designs.

The Nike Air Max 1

The first in the Air Max series, the pair, designed by Tinker Hatfield takes inspiration from the Pompidou Centre in Paris. Featuring a lightweight mesh upper, with colour changing leather panels – reacting in the sun and UV light to change from off-white to blue. The pair is completed with swoosh branding to the side walls, and sits upon a visible Air unit midsole

History:

The Nike Air Max 1 is another Tinker Hatfield creation, and thanks to him we saw a development in Nike technology and some ground breaking shoes were created. When Hatfield first showed the Air Max 1 to the marketing team at Nike they were stumped by the “hole in side”, and were not too sure how to market them. Through their doubts Nike still released the shoe, and since then have done their biggest numbers to date.

The Nike Air sole units first appeared on the scene in the late 70’s. In 1987 the Nike Air Max debuted with visible air in it’s heel, inspired from the Pompidou Centre in Paris. The Air-Sole comfort soon became a sneaker icon with athletic, celebrities and collectors co-signing the design. With a catalogue of offspring colour-ways and collaborations the Air Max has cemented itself as a Nike fans staple.
