History
The idea of the Nike Hyperadapt 1.0 came to about when Tiffany Beers and Tinker Hatfield from Nike met for the first time. Knowing that Tinker had previously worked on the Nike Air Mag, and the attempts he’d made at bringing the inventive ‘Back to The Future’ self tying shoes to fruition; they decided to work together in attempt to bring the project to reality.
Hatfield wanted to see the pet project through; Beers, who was happy to investigate ways to make it work, got to work on testing her theories with a team of engineers. They first came up with a snowboard boot powered by an external generator, while it wasn’t quite what they were looking to create – they were happy with the advancements and wanted to take it further.
While the tech was first tested on a 2015 creation of the Nike Air Mag, the results of the hard work didn’t really come into light until the Hyperadapt’s reveal. Without a shadow of a doubt, Nike (and it’s self lacing shoes) is one brand taking giant leap towards the future of performance footwear.
Wouldn’t it be great if a shoe, in the future, could sense when you needed to have it tighter or looser? Could it take you even tighter than you’d normally go if it senses you really need extra snugness in a quick maneuver? That’s where we’re headed. In the future, product will come alive.
