History:
Borrowing from the Magista football design, Pro skater Eric Koston designs a signature shoe for Nike that will change the way you skateboard. The Nike SB Koston 3 uses the Flyknit collar, with this technology the skating is more streamlined and you feel a connection from board to floor.
Eric Koston has moved way past his days of duct taping his trainers and have been working on the design for the past 2 years, going through 5 or 6 samples before finally coming to this marriage of designs.
I’m always trying to think of ways to make skate shoes perform better. Any sort of advantage gain to the skater by making the shoe better, I want to keep trying to figure out.
– Eric Koston, Professional Skater
The use of the Flyknit technology means you feel locked into the boot around the ankle, this in turn means you have more stability when riding the board. Nike analysed wear-map data from Koston’s previous shoes and placed grips where applicable to key areas. This means the sole and sidewall are slim in texture and are fitted with web-rubber for extra traction. Koston wanted to keep the suede upper as he felt the fabric was reliable and familiar for skate shoes.
