Ron Howard's advice to John Wayne
In his autobiography, co-written with his brother Clint, Ron Howard remembers the most famous cowboy of cinema, with whom he played chess between the catch:

Paramount
“Working on the last of the giants opened my eyes because, as legendary and decorated as Wayne, Bacall and Stewart were, they worked harder than anyone else on the set, making hours and as many catches that it was necessary to succeed in a scene.”
And guest of Merv Griffin Show In 1979, Howard told a precious advice that Wayne had given her on the set:
“When you make a moving scene, the public likes to bring emotion, and if they are with you and the film, they will do it, you may not need to cry yourself. They will cry for you, and it's better. Be sober and the audience will do it for you”.
Ron Howard had another link with the star of the desert prisoner: his brother Clint had played in the series The Cowboys, inspired by the Homonymous film released in 1972 with John Wayne in the main role.
During the last years of his life, John Wayne had informed Ron Howard that he wanted to rework with him. Due to the actor's declining health, the project will unfortunately not succeed, and the last of the giants will remain the last Wayne film, who died in 1979 at 72 years old.
