Over 100,000 Armenians Flee Disputed Enclave

Yerevan, Armenia – More than 100,000 Armenians have fled the disputed enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh in recent weeks, amid renewed fighting between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces. The United Nations has called for a ceasefire and urged both sides to negotiate a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh began in late September, and has since escalated rapidly. The two sides have been exchanging heavy artillery and rocket fire, and there have been reports of civilian casualties.

The Armenian government has accused Azerbaijan of launching a full-scale offensive against Nagorno-Karabakh, while the Azerbaijani government has accused Armenia of provoking the fighting.

The United Nations has called for a ceasefire and urged both sides to negotiate a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The UN Security Council has also issued a statement expressing deep concern over the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The exodus of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh is the largest displacement of people in the region since the end of the Nagorno-Karabakh War in 1994. The war left around 30,000 people dead and forced hundreds of thousands more to flee their homes.

The current fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh is raising fears of a new humanitarian crisis in the region. The United Nations has warned that the fighting could displace up to 1 million people.

The international community is calling for an immediate ceasefire and for the two sides to return to the negotiating table. The conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh is a complex one, and there is no easy solution. However, it is clear that the only way to resolve the conflict peacefully is through dialogue and diplomacy.
