Recently Opened, Sikkim’s Pakyong Airport Is So Beautiful, You’ll Want To Fly Down Right Away

Northeast India is nothing but nature’s brightest gem worth visiting, and travelers like you and me have been heading to Sikkim one way or the other. However, none of us could go there directly and the four and a half hour journey from Bagdogra airport in West Bengal to Gangtok made the entire journey tiring. But, the good news that has just come out is this That Pakyong Airport in Sikkim All set to become operational from 4th October. The Prime Minister put Sikkim on the aviation map by inaugurating the airport on Monday. Now it will take only one and a half hour to reach Gangtok.

Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu had announced in May this year that the 201-acre Pakyong Airport in SikkimThe company, located about 30 km from Gangtok, had received the license to start its commercial operations. As of now, SpiceJet is the only airline that has got the permit to fly from Kolkata to the airport. The airline conducted a successful test flight on March 10, 2018.

The picturesque Pakyong Airport is the 100th operational airport of India. This airport is expected to further boost tourism and economic development in Sikkim. It has been built at a cost of Rs 605 crore. Situated amidst the Himalayas at an altitude of 4500 feet, Pakyong Greenfield Airport is beautifully decorated and a marvel to behold.
