Pedro Villar Designs Cachoeira Chair Without Legs

Pedro Villar, a Brazilian designer studying at ArtCenter College of Design has come up with Cachoeira. It is a unique seating project that allows for flexible interactions, where people can talk, sit, or lay down in different ways.

Inspired by a rug, the designer wanted to create a multi-functional furniture piece that would help homeowners maximize seating space at home. It can be seen as a chair without any legs.

The chair’s main structure is crafted out of wood and outfitted with a soft upholstery top to ensure comfort. Each piece has two backs, on different sides, allowing people to sit the way they like.

There is a possibility to use multiple chairs in combination with each other. The positions can be arranged in a way that they harmonize with each other, creating new interacting options.

Cachoeira chair aims to integrate several forms of furniture into a singular object. Following the concept of organic design, this chair not just impresses with its shape and material but also enhances the experience.

Pedro has been awarded the $3,000 Gianninoto Graduate Scholarship by IDSA Design Foundation this year.
