Disney+ has put “Ironheart” online yesterday, the last production of the Marvel stable is the beautiful surprise of June. We explain why.
What is it talking about?
Riri Williams, a young genius inventor, is determined to leave her brand on the world. But its unique approach to the construction of metal armor is both brilliant and … perfectible!
Who is it with?
Introduced into the Marvel universe via Black Panther 2 in 2022 (that it is not necessary to have seen to understand the series), Dominique Thorne is a promising young actress. She began her career in 2019 in the adaptation if Beale Street could speak, an ode to African-American culture. We find by his side in Ironheart the actors Anthony Ramos (Hamilton), Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo) or Sacha Baron Cohen in a secret role.
Does that deserve the look?
Ironheart acts as pariah at Marvel. The series slept in the Disney+ boxes since its shooting two years ago. A calendar conflict and an internal change of strategy did not allow her heroine to take off before 2025. It is however she who has the heavy task of closing the if deceptive phase 5.
Let's talk about the House of Ideas in recent years. Whether in the cinema or on television, she has a hard time federating as before. The end in apotheosis of endgamous Avengers associated with the tired superhero seems to have cooled fans. And the multiplication of cinema and television programs has not helped: to understand the films, you have to watch the series. But how do you watch so many series, in such different genres?
However, there were pretty surprises: last September, Agatha All Along was delighting us, while vibrating in us the nostalgic fiber of Marvel. Ironheart, to a lesser extent, manages to do the same thing.
By skillfully drawing in the inheritance left by Iron Man (let's forget 5 minutes this story of Dr Doom…) and in the universe of Dr Strange, she reminds us of the Belle Epoque. The one where Tony Star was having fun creating her first armor and her AI, and that where Stephen Strange discovered magic with facery.
Without ever wanting to walk on Iron Man's flower beds, Riri Williams manages to create his own identity: that of a black superheroine who tries to get out of it in Chicago (character in its own right). Its interpreter Dominique Thorne is funny, touching, stubborn. A nice addition in the stable that we hope to see on the big screen.
Chinaka Hodge, the designer of the series, did what it takes to tickle the curiosity of fans hardcores : Ironheart introduces three Marvel super-vilains, starting with Hood (Anthony Ramos), a criminal plagued by his desire for revenge who uses magic to achieve his ends.
On the special effects side, the teams are doing well with honors, which makes Ironheart's viewing particularly effective. Even if it was shot in 2023 and the Marvel strategy has since evolved, the series is still in the future and serves to bind with what awaits us.
In particular with the final revelation that we have hoped for so long. We can now hope for the best for phase 6 that awaits us.
Ironheart, six episodes broadcast in two parts, to see on Disney+.
