Tragically, Diana’s younger brother Irnis was killed by Serb soldiers at the age of 21. Diana was an economics student at University of Sarajevo when he was killed. Jenkins spent more than a year as a refugee in Croatia before moving to London, England. After two years, she was able re-start her education at City University, London. Many of her Yugoslavian fellow refugees fled around this time. Diana, however, was granted permanent citizenship due to her outstanding educational record and her refusal to apply for any government welfare.
