Threads was launched in summer 2023. It quickly became known as the “Twitter Killer” and a major competitor for the recently renamed X.
You may be wondering: “Should I use Threads for my company?”
You may be hesitant about expanding your brand on a platform that is so new.
Read on to learn more about Threads and its benefits, and how it can help your business.
Instagram threads: Advantages and disadvantages
Having a Threads Account for your Business has many benefits. The platform is new, and it has some flaws.
Threads have a variety of properties
Quick follow-up
Because Threads is connected to your Instagram, all of your followers on Instagram will be transferred to Threads as long as their account exists.
It is easier to create a bigger platform in the app, as you do not have to start at scratch.
You can easily maintain a consistent brand across platforms by transferring your verification badge, bio, and profile picture to your account.
Awareness and Engagement Increased
Threads has just begun. While I am writing this article, Threads is only a few months old. When a platform is launched, it’s usually brands that benefit first.
By leveraging a new platform, your company can establish brand recognition and a following as quickly as possible before the algorithms are changed and engagement opportunities for brands become behind paywalls.
Reaching younger audiences
You can reach out to Gen Z with Threads.
Statista reports that 40.1% Gen-Zers downloaded the app because they thought it was fun.
Nearly 38% of respondents said that they had downloaded the app to test a different platform. One in five said they wanted an alternative to X.
Threads has little information about Gen Z users, but it is clear that they use the app and are interested.
Because Threads is a relatively new platform, you have the opportunity to build long-term relationships with Gen Z before changes in future make it more difficult.
Cons of Threads
You can’t delete threads
You can delete threads but only after deleting your Instagram. This will seriously damage your social media presence.
It is particularly problematic if your business relies on tools such as Shopify Instagram.
Searchable Features are not all available
Threads has recently added a new keyword search function that allows users to locate posts containing the keywords in their query.
Instagram threads does not support hashtags. This means that they cannot be used to help you find the right audience for your brand or find out who your customers are.
Threads doesn’t offer a Discovery Page like Insta which shows content of accounts that you may not be following but find interesting.
It can be difficult to reach out and grow your audience if you don’t have the right search tools.
Threads releases new updates constantly to improve the user experience and functionality of its platform for both consumers and brands.
The number of impressions or engagement cannot tracked
Threads does not have any tools for tracking KPIs like engagement rates, views, or watch times.
It is hard to measure your brand’s ROI and performance on Facebook.
You may find it difficult to determine what kind of content is most popular with your audience.
It seems that the enthusiasm for this app has waned
Threads surpassed ChatGPTT in terms of growth within a single day. Threads’ user count dropped by 82% a month after launch.
In a recent Glimpse study on Threads and X, we found that 62% X users had used the app at least one hour per day since July 2023. Threads was only rated by 21% of users as being the most popular.
As of August 1, threads were only viewed on average for 2.9 minutes a day. Data shows that the daily active users of Threads continue to decrease by approximately 1% each day.
Why should your brand be on threads?
Should your brand use Threads to promote itself? My answer – Why not?
The platform struggles to keep up with the pace of technology and needs more searchability features and tracking data.
Its integration with and Instagram provides ample opportunities for your brand to grow on social media by building community, increasing awareness, and expanding its reach.
It is particularly beneficial to have a Instagram Account.
The app will import your followers and profile photos, as well as your verification badges, into your threads account, helping you to grow your platform.
You may want to consider Threads if you’re looking to become one of the first brands on a new platform to create a community.
If building a social community is not a top priority for you, then the app should be put on hold.
