The final scene of Squid Game sees Cate Blanchett appear. The Australian actress twice Oscaries slips into the costume of a recruiter, in what seems to be a US version of the Calamar game. The master of the game Hwang in-ho (Lee Byung-Hun) attends the scene, therefore suggesting that it remains very involved in the organization behind these macabre games.
“We thought that having a woman as a recruiter would be more dramatic and intriguing”explains Hwang Dong-Hyuk on the official website Tudum. “And why Cate Blanchett? Because she is simply the best, with an unrivaled charisma. Who does not like her? We were therefore very happy to have it with us. We needed someone capable of captivating the screen in one or two lines, and that’s exactly what she did.”

The latter also reveals that he was very impressed by his talent for the Ddakji, a game which is not well known outside the borders of South Korea.
An end that proves that the sacrifice of gi-hun has not changed anything
Also interviewed by the Netflix promotional site, Lee Byung-Hun said that it is according to him the most appropriate end for a series like Netflix. “Personally, I see the symbol there that, despite all the noble efforts of so many people, the world continues to turn as before”he said about this final sequence.
This cameo does not yet allow us to say that Cate Blanchett will appear in the American version of Squid Game. Let us recall, however, that the actress was directed by David Fincher in her film The Strange story of Benjamin Button, and that she also replied to Squid Game Jung Ho-Yon (player No. 067 in season 1) in the Displaimer series.
In any case, this is an appearance that no fan of squid game expected. A surprise at the height of the event, since Squid Game is simply the most seen series of all time on Netflix with almost 3 billion hours of viewing identified for its first two seasons.
