Squid game season 3: The skipping rope test was the easiest to write, but also the hardest to make – News Series

It is undoubtedly the most impressive test of the seasons 2 and 3 of Squid Game. The series proposes to follow the adventures of 456 participants, subject to games inspired by childhood. 45.6 billion won (around 28.7 million euros) are brought into play, and the prize pool fills as players are eliminated … that is to say killed.

New games have been introduced into the seasons 2 and 3 to add more spice to the series, and avoid reproducing the tests of the first season identically. This was notably the case with the jumping rope game, the penultimate test discovered in the last season of the program.

As in the playground, but more dangerous

The principle of this test is simple: cross a narrow cornice several meters from the ground, avoiding being mowed down by a giant jump rope, connected to the two dolls of the little girl and the little boy. To not facilitate anything to the players: a hole in the middle of the cornice obliges the players to make a jump without losing their balance, while monitoring the rotation of the rope.

As the creator of Squid Game Hwang Dong-Hyuk entrusted to our colleagues Hollywood Reporterthis sequence has been one of the simplest to write, but also one of the most difficult to shoot. The logistics of special effects combined with the rhythm of the actors' jumps was a real headache for the South Korean director:

During writing, the most difficult to design games were the fourth and the sixth (Cache and Squid Game Celeste), because of their psychological dimension. The jump rope was relatively easier to write. But once the actors on the set, it was necessary to make sure that everyone jumps at the same rate.

This sequence required many special and sound effects, a logistics that has considerably extended the filming time of this sequence. “I think this game may seem visceral, as you said, because it really requests the five senses to understand what is happening”underlined the creator of the series.
