A change in seasons 2 and 3 of “Squid Game” was made to expand the public in the series on Netflix.
Few people have noticed it, but when you think it jumps out in the eyes. Broadcast three years after season 1, the second season of Squid Game made it possible to introduce an almost fully renewed casting. 456 new participants were discovered… or rather 454 since Gi-Hun Seong (n ° 456) and the master of the game Hwang in-ho (n ° 001) had already appeared in the first season.
Younger characters to seduce millennials
And unlike season 1, the average age of participants in this new edition of Squid Game is much younger. A number of players are only about twenty years old, a rejuvenation fully assumed by the creator of the Hwang Dong-Hyeok series.
“In season 2, I widened this age range to include players in around twenty years in Squid Game”he said at a press conference (relayed by our colleagues from Télé-Loisirs. “We have more players of the so -called Millennials generation, which makes more characters who identify directly. But in substance, it is more important to see the values and characteristics of the characters than their age.”
However, the South Korean screenwriter and director hopes that Squid Game fans will not identify with the characters only according to their age. Citing the example of Thanos, the most wacky character in season 2, Hwang Dong-Hyeok explains that it is the personality and appearance of the character who explain his popularity, and not his young age.
The hero of Squid Game appeals to all generations of fans
And if there is a character who pleases no matter our age, it's Gi-Hun Seong. The protagonist embodied by Lee Jung-Jae (52 years old) is indeed attaching to everyone's eyes, because of his values (defense of oppressed, fighting for justice …) but also for his refusal to give up in the face of the many obstacles on his way.
The latter will have a lot to do during the last six episodes of the series, the last straight line to hope to see the player 456 finally take his revenge against the master of the game. The third and last season of Squid Game can be found this Friday, June 27 exclusively on Netflix.
