The third and last season of “Squid Game” sees an emblematic character in the series making a completely unexpected appearance.
Be careful, the following returns in detail to the intrigue of season 3 of Squid Game, now available on Netflix. If you have not seen it, and do not want to know anything about its content, you are highly recommended to interrupt your reading of this article.
The final season of Squid Game was unveiled by Netflix on June 27. Fans of the South Korean program were able to discover the long-awaited final of the most viewed series of all time on the platform. Despite mixed criticism, season 3 nevertheless signed a record start with more than 60 million views in just three days.
Thanos, the star character of season 2
This last season has reserved many surprises for fans, starting with the surprise appearance of a Hollywood star. But that's not all, since a much appreciated character also signed his return, around a scene. A perfectly unexpected cameo, since the character in question was killed at the very end of season 2.
Thanos – alias the number 230 player – is undoubtedly among the most emblematic characters of Squid Game. Recognizable by his eccentric look (purple hair, painted nails in the colors of the infinity stones of the Avengers films), the latter represented a threat because of his nonchalant attitude towards the danger of the games, and his will to continue the games at all costs.
But Thanos finally died, in the riots that preceded the insurrection at the end of season 2.. He was stabbed to death by player number 333 (Myung-Gi), an influencer specializing in cryptocurrency whose bad advice ruined him. Ironically, the two men found themselves participating in the same edition of Squid Game.
Back in season 3, but how?
Killed in season 2, how could Thanos have returned to the third season? The latter appears during the very last test, in the form of a hallucination. Player 125 (Park Min-Su) appears to be the perfect target for the finalist group, which must eliminate at least one participant during each of the three phases of the event.
In lack of drugs, player 125 sees Thanos suspended on the edge of the platform, the latter encouraging him to save him from the fall in exchange for new pills. This vision also sees the player 380 (SE Mi), which Park Min-Su killed in season 2 although it was of great help during the previous events.

The visions finally end when player 125 is pushed out of the platform by Myung-Gi. The appearance of Thanos has therefore indirectly allowed the group of finalist to pass the first phase of the event, but also to Gi-Hun Seong and to the baby which he protects from surviving a little longer in this final.
The three seasons of Squid Game can now be found in full on Netflix.
