While attending the fight between Mohamed Ali and the Outsider Chuck Wepner, Stallone imagines the story of Rocky Balboa, a second zone boxer managing to take the distance from the heavyweight world champion. At that time, Sylvester Stallone was about to be expelled from his apartment, for lack of sufficient income to pay his rent. The sale of the Rocky scenario would have allowed him to put his money problems behind him, but he nevertheless refuses the offers made to him. Because Stallone only wrote this script with one idea in mind: to embody the main role of the film itself.
The Studio United Artists would have preferred to entrust the role of Rocky to a more confirmed actor: the names of Robert Redford, James Caan or Burt Reynolds are then mentioned. An agreement is ultimately reached with Stallone, who agrees to sell the rights of the scenario to the studio – and which to date still do not belong to it – and at least union wages to be able to play the boxer.

A failure of the film would undoubtedly have ended Sylvester Stallone’s career hopes, but also led to its financial ruin. Fortunately, success was there! Rocky reports more than $ 200 million at the box office, and is rewarded by 3 Oscars including that of the best film.
Sylvester Stallone, meanwhile, won two nominations, for the prices for best actor and the best original scenario. He was certainly not rewarded, but whatever since his name was now among the most demanded actors in Hollywood. By deciding to take control of his destiny himself, Sly offered herself one of the most fruitful careers in American cinema.
