On June 14, this family film worn by Jim Carrey leaves Netflix. Only a few days to see it in the adaptation of a cult video game!

A year after welcoming the little blue hedgehog in its catalog, Netflix farewells to Sonic.

Released in 2021, this live action version follows the fastest blue hedgehog in the world on earth, its new house. Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to save the planet from the diabolical Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey), well determined to reign over the whole world.

With more than 2 million admissions in France, this video game character who crossed the eras conquered the young and older and even offered a suite two years later. A third part, which will stage Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Shadow, the best known heroes of the video game universe for the first time, is expected for the end of the year.

But Sonic's success would surely not have been the same if the studios had not reversed on a particularly important subject: the design of the blue hedgehog.

The face of discord

To understand what we are talking about, we have to go back to April 2019. Paramount unveils the first images of her film Sonic, thinking of satisfying fans of the video games. But the opposite is going on.

The trailer visible on YouTube receives a record number of “red inch”, the comments point to the finger at the look of the hedgehog that they consider sloppy, mailing because too humanoid, and not faithful to video games. Faced with this outcry, director Jeff Fowler decides to reverse and apologizes. He and his team return to work to better satisfy the public:

“Thank you for your support. And for your criticism. The message could not be clear … You are not satisfied with the design and you want changes. You will have them. All the teams of Paramount and Sega are fully committed to obtain the best possible version of this character …”

To get there, the Paramount studio agrees to inject an additional $ 5 million in order to start zero again and completely redo the look of the blue hedgehog. This will raise the film's budget to 90 million green tickets, which will be fortunately, quickly profitable … Two suites will be created, with equivalent success. To date, the saga has a total of $ 1.15 billion at the international box office.

Sonic leaves Netflix on June 14.
