However, in addition to Cruise’s exceptional supporting turn, the film also features great work from a young, but feisty Kirsten Dunst, as well as Antonio Banderas, Christian Slater, and Thandiwe Newton. It’s a great cast that also reflects the 1990s.
It’s full of lush green sets
because many Interview with the Vampire Being a period piece, the film also features some incredible sets, especially its early scenes set in New Orleans. One of the great joys of this film, which many knew about at the time and has become more apparent in recent years, is its pervasive homophobia. The seductive power of becoming a vampire is almost always communicated from one man to another, and Lestat, in particular, seems like someone who is in love with Louise and is overcompensating.
In reality, however, Louis appears to have a mutual attraction with basically every male character in the film, and it is unclear whether this was something the filmmakers understood or not. Nonetheless, it makes for some really entertaining, tense scenes, especially between this film’s many male characters.
