Every day, Allociné recommends a film to (re) see on TV. Tonight: unloved by its director, this film continues to amaze young and old, and this, 30 years after its release in the cinema.
Among the cult adaptations of Peter Pan, the little boy who did not want to grow imagined by the Scottish writer JM Barrie, there is obviously Hook or the revenge of the Captain Crochet de Steven Spielberg.
Released in the cinema in 1992, this film intended for the whole family takes place a few years after the wonderful adventures of Peter Pan. Peter has become a brilliant business lawyer who drew a line on his fantastic past. But the terrible captain hook has forgotten nothing. To finally settle their account, he removes a Jack and Maggie night, Peter's children …
Who better than the late Robin Williams to embody our favorite hero on the screen? For his part Gwyneth Paltrow took his first steps in front of the camera and played the role of Wendy young. The bell fairy is interpreted by Julia Roberts, the threatening captain Hook by Dustin Hoffman, while Maggie Smith lends his features to the Grandfather of Wendy.
Many other big names participate in this great family adventure, such as Phil Collins. A five-star cast for a film underestimated by its director …
Steven Spielberg's great regret
The story of Peter Pan has always amazed Steven Spielberg. When he was a teenager, he staged a play adapted from the book JM Barrie. And it is therefore natural that the famous director wanted to adapt this work to the screen.
Unfortunately, Steven Spielberg regrets his choice. Indeed, in an interview with the radio program “Kermode and Mayo's film review”, he said that he was not at all satisfied with his film: “I still don't like this film. I hope that day I will see him again and that I may appreciate some parts“.
What bothers him are the sequences in the famous “imaginary country”: “I am not comfortable with this very stylized world, when today, of course, I would probably have done that with live-action characters in a completely digital setting“.
But that Steven Spielberg reassure itself, many spectators love Hook or the revenge of Captain Crochet. The Internet users of Allociné also awarded him the note of 3.8 out of 5.
That's not all, since this fantastic film was appointed oscars five times in 1992 in the categories best sets, best costumes, best make -up, best visual effects and best song.
Proof thatHook or the revenge of Captain Crochet is (very) far from being a turnip!
