Top 10 strange and unusual video game secrets, you have to dig deep
Hey fellow gamers, do you like video games, secrets and weird stuff like cucumber soup? Then you’ve come to the right place since we’re going to talk about the strangest secrets of video games, these sometimes disturbing or really very original easter eggs well hidden in certain dark and pixelated corners of our favorite worlds. Without wasting any more time, I suggest that you immediately see some unusual examples in this area or see my photos of my vacation at Lac du Der, with my introduction to paddleboarding.
1. The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim – Hall of Dead Characters
Probably the weirdest room in this endless fucking game of which my part is older than my son: the one where all the non-playable characters you’ve killed because you have big anger issues to deal with go. Thanks to a sleight of hand, you can arrive (with difficulty) in this room which you should not be able to visit and in which heaps of corpses are piled up. These are actually all the non-playable characters you’ve killed (NPCs) and they’re probably locked away there so you don’t run into them again in-game, but it’s still creepy nonetheless.
2. The Outer World – L’abris de Herbert
While walking around the Cascadia side, you can unwillingly find the underground shelter of a certain Herbert. When you get inside, the famous hermit will attack you on sight, leaving you no choice but to kill him. Once this is done, you can search the premises and discover skeletons, robots and a note which tells you that Herbert was a child who took refuge alone with his parents in this shelter, that his parents died and that he was raised by robots in a sad life of loneliness and without birthday cakes. And you’ve just bumped into him, you, the first living being he’s encountered in years. Cheer.
3. Game Boy Camera – Les photos ultra flippantes
When the game / gadget Game Boy Camera which allowed to take pictures and make mini-games came out it was a small revolution. There were some mini-games in there where you had several options, including one that said “run”. And when you tapped on it you could see some pretty creepy black and white face images popping up with the message “What are you trying to run from?” », which immediately became less childish and sympathetic.
4. Hitman Contracts – The Hotel Ghost
Quite surprisingly, there is indeed a ghost in the game Hitman Contracts : In a level that takes place in a hotel, you can go to a room where there seems to have been a bloodbath, and if you look in the mirror, you will see a super creepy ghost behind you. Besides, you can even kill this bastard and drag his corpse which is already quite dead to hide it, not super logical, but he didn’t steal it, to scare bald people like agent 47 who restyle.
5. Death Stranding – The Monster Under the Bed
When you go to a base to take a shower and rest between deliveries in this nightmarish version of Iceland trekking simulation, you can discover a funny trick while trying to place the camera on the crotch of Norman Reedus. The latter will give you the middle finger, push away the camera and express his displeasure, but if you insist, you will have a visit from a monster the next time you sleep (in the game, don’t worry). This monster is also the face of the director of the game himself, Hideo Kojima.
6. The Last of us (remake) – Le bureau de “The Office”
This one is not necessarily creepy but you can notice that the creators of the remake of the excellent The last of us had fun putting the famous offices of Dunder Mifflin (The Office) in their game. The thing is still quite creepy since the place is deserted, all in shambles and we can say that the whole team is dead, which immediately makes the wink less fun.
7. Max Payne 3 – La telenovela Rosemary’s Baby
In the third level of Max Payne 3 (the one at the football stadium), you can watch a TV for a few minutes until it starts broadcasting some kind of telenovela in which we see the birth of a super weird demon baby that is strangely reminiscent of the movie Rosemary’s Baby and rather uncomfortable. But you were too busy killing 300 people in the stadium to realize it.
8. Assassin’s Creed 2 – Le Kraken
At the time when Assassin’s Creed was a good game series (yeah it denounces) we could find a really cool easter egg in the second part. In the room of a temple you could see a creature moving in the water and if you managed to solve an enigma made up of stupid mechanisms, the monster finally released its huge tentacles. Ok, that was absolutely useless though.
9. Red Dead Redemption 2 – The Paint House
Red Dead 2 is full of easter eggs or weird encounters (like the incestuous horrible couple or the people of the night) but one of the weirdest is the painting house. Basically it’s a very ordinary cabin in which there is a painting that has just started. But each time you come back to the cabin the portrait gets more and more detailed until you can see the face of a man with a mustache and a hat. Nothing too strange you might think, but this is a nod to the first Red Dead and it is a character that we meet several times and who is quite simply the devil.
10. PT(Silent Hills) – Lisa’s True Ghost Location
This demo made by Hideo Kojima dubbed P.T. for “playable teaser” was supposed to announce the game Silent Hills which ultimately will never come out. In it we moved through an apartment while having the feeling that a ghost was following our every move. We also saw his shadow projected on the walls each time we moved, as if the ghost had been grafted onto our backs. A player managed to enter the source code of the game and detach the camera from his character, to realize that in reality the ghost that we were looking for in every corner was permanently stuck on the player’s back. creepy.
