Top 12 Movies That Look Super Boring, But Actually Not At All

It sometimes happens that we are recommended a film or that we find ourselves by force of circumstance watching one that does not thrill us at all, a film that looks really boring. If it can often end in a long boring moment it also happens that it is on the contrary an excellent surprise. We offer you a small, totally subjective list of films which, like that, gave us the impression of looking boring and which in the end were really cool, a bit like these films which looked bad but which were great .

1. Breakfast Club

Why does it look boring? Because it’s just the story of a few high school students who have nothing to do with each other and find themselves stuck for a whole Saturday. Said like that, it doesn’t break bricks.

Why is it actually good? Because in fact it’s super well written and well acted, it remained the film of a whole generation and we also recommend the film Ferris Bueller from the same director.

2. There will be blood

Why does it look boring? Because it already lasts 150 minutes and it’s about a guy who isn’t necessarily nice who settles in a small town where the only occupation is to go to church to make a fortune there in the exploitation of oil.

Why is it actually good? Because it’s from one of the best directors in the world already, and what’s more, the story starts (gently) as it intensifies. And also there’s Daniel Day Lewis, the guy who has more Oscars than you have exes.

3. Her

Why does it look boring? Because it’s the story of a lonely guy who falls in love with the voice of an artificial intelligence. No kidding, that’s the story.

Why is it actually good? Because it’s fucking touching, it’s rather original and (not really surprising) Joaquin Phoenix plays very very well in it.

4. The Lives of Others

Why does it look boring? Because it tells the story of a guy who works for the German secret service and watches over a wealthy couple in Berlin by listening to everything they say to each other. He’s mostly a guy in an attic who listens to other people while typing on a typewriter basically.

Why is it actually good? Bah because finally the story is cool, we get attached to the character and we understand why he is moving away from his mission more and more. I can’t tell everything either, otherwise it would screw up the film, but it’s cool.

5. Pi’s Odyssey

Why does it look boring? Because it’s just about a kid who finds himself in the middle of the ocean on a tiny boat with a tiger. And he doesn’t meet anyone else, just a tiger.

Why is it actually good? Because the story is not only a lot cooler than it sounds, but the movie is visually amazing, like your crush in the groom’s outfit in the wedding scene you imagine before you fall asleep

6. The Strategist

Why does it look boring? Because it’s the true story of a guy who began to want to revolutionize the world of baseball by selecting players based on precise statistics on their skills and not on their rating or their fame. Admit it, said like that, it’s super boring.

Why is it actually good? Because it’s really addictive, even if it’s about a sport whose rules and statistics we don’t understand, well, it’s frankly well done and we go down in history very quickly.

7. 12 angry men

Why does it look boring? Because it’s a closed courtroom where jurors are trying to decide whether the defendant in the trial they just saw is guilty or innocent. It’s not Avengers quoi.

Why is it actually good? Because from the start we are caught up in the thing and we don’t let go of the story, even if it’s an old black and white film (which is not an argument for not watching a film).

8. Into the Wild

Why does it look boring? Because it’s just about a guy who goes hiking for the rest of his life because he’s tired of working. (I summarize).

Why is it actually good? Because it’s a bit deeper than that, it’s well filmed, and it sits ON a bus at one point. Honestly personally, I didn’t like it more than that, but you have to believe that most people liked it when it looked boring like a morning in a DIY store.

9. The man from earth

Why does it look boring? Because it was filmed with very little means in an empty house and it’s about a group of teachers saying goodbye to one of their colleagues who is leaving. But before leaving he confesses to them that he is several thousand years old and they spend an hour discussing to find out if he is not talking bullshit.

Why is it actually good? In reality the film is brilliant, it’s well written and super clever but when I talk to people about it they tell me that it looks boring.

10. The tree of life (mais attention, il divise)

Why does it look boring? Because it’s about a family (I think) piling up lots of small scenes of life and stuff that has nothing to do. And also there are thirty minutes with dinosaurs at the beginning of the film, but I don’t know why.

Why is it actually good? It depends on the people, some hated it but personally I found it cool, not like my great colleague Louise who verbally shit on the film. Difficult to advise you.

11. Swiss Army Man

Why does it look boring? Because it’s the story of a guy who finds himself on a desert island with a corpse and to get out of it he uses the corpse (of Daniel Radcliffe) which has a lot of powers. Like, he can fart super loud for the other to use him like a jet ski. This scene really exists.

Why is it actually good? Because it obviously won’t appeal to everyone, but it’s anything but boring, it’s a super deep movie about loneliness, depression, friendship and love and all the people who liked this movie share an invisible and unbreakable bond.

12. Moon

Why does it look boring? Because it’s the story of a guy all alone on the moon with his robot and who takes care of monitoring the production of a company. On paper it just looks like a movie about a factory night watchman who is all alone. On the moon.

Why is it actually good? Because it’s really very, very well put together, but I can’t tell you why, it lasts an hour and twenty at the same time, so if I tell you too much about it, it’ll ruin the whole film. No kidding if you like SF watch Moon.
